Edwina Marie Grix

Surrounded by family, Edwina Marie Grix earned her eternal reward and joined her husband, David, on October 15, 2023. She was 92 years young.
Edwina was the beloved wife of David for 54 years, and the loving and cherished mother of David (Angie), Stephen (Lorraine), James (Joni), Edwin (Jill), Michael (Ellen), and Claudia Grix.
"Nonnie" was the devoted grandmother of David, Daniel, Jennifer, Michael, Christina, Jason, Jaclyn, Samantha, Sarah, and Emily. She was the proud great-grandmother of Dylon, Stephen, Ryan, Stevie, Alexandra, and Jeansay. A seventh great-grandchild will join the family in January of 2024. She is also survived by an extensive list of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. She was beloved and respected by all who knew her.
Being an only child of Polish descent, Edwina cherished and was most proud of her large and extended family. She was the consummate cook and relished preparing and sharing family and cultural recipes to anyone interested. She knew of everyone's favorite dishes, which always appeared on the table for birthdays, special occasions, and especially at the Holidays. Nothing brought her greater joy and satisfaction than having the entire family crowded around the dining table. And somehow, there was always room for one more to pull up a chair.
Edwina was also a woman of deep faith and spirituality. A devout parishioner of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Royal Oak for over 40 years, rarely did she miss a Sunday Mass. Her prayer book was a tremendous source of strength and was always close by. Originally belonging to her mother, its pages worn and taped together, it provided inspiration every morning and comfort every evening. She knew the names of every patron saint and would not hesitate to call on them whenever anyone was in need. Her book was with her as she made her way to join her beloved David.
The Grix family will receive friends on Thursday, October 19, 2023, from 2-8pm, at A. J. Desmond & Sons (Vasu, Rodgers & Connell Chapel), located at 32515 Woodward Ave. (btwn 13 – 14 Mile Rds.), Royal Oak. A Scripture Service will be begin at 7pm.
A Funeral Mass will be held Friday, October 20, 2023, at St. Mary Catholic Church, 730 S. Lafayette Ave., Royal Oak. Visitation at the church will begin at 9:30am, with Mass to follow at 10am.
In lieu of flowers, memorial tributes appreciated to Gleaners Food Bank or Residential Hospice Foundation.
