Edwina Joyce Vecchiolla

Edwina Joyce Vecchiolla, 90, of South Windsor, died peacefully on Tuesday, December 9, 2025, at Fox Hill Center in Vernon. She was born in Manchester, CT, on August 16, 1935, the daughter of the late Joseph and Jennie (Squatrito) Vecchiolla. She will be joining her late sister, Rose Marie (Vecchiolla) Tursi. Edwina grew up in Hartford and was a graduate of Weaver High School. She earned her bachelor's degree from Boston University in 1958 and a master's degree from Springfield College. She worked as a physical education teacher and taught in East Windsor and Newington, where she was lovingly remembered as Miss Vicky. Edwina touched countless lives during her career and made a tremendous impact on her students. She enjoyed gardening, traveling, and rooting on the UConn women's basketball team. She was a parishioner of St. Margaret Mary Church in South Windsor. Edwina volunteered in various capacities and helped supply food to local food pantries. A kind, caring, and loving woman she will be dearly missed. She leaves her nephews, Francis Tursi, Jr. of Kingston, Jamaica, Wayne Tursi, Sr., of Oldsmar, FL, and Vincent Tursi with his wife Sandra of Ellington, her grandnephews, Wayne Tursi, Jr., Matthew Tursi, Vincent Tursi III, Dominic Tursi and her grandniece Dr. Alexandra Tursi. Her family will receive friends for calling hours on Monday, December 15, 2025, from 5 - 7 p.m., at the Samsel & Carmon Funeral Home, 419 Buckland Rd., South Windsor. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, December 16, 2025, 10 a.m., meeting directly at St. Francis of Assisi Church, 673 Ellington Rd., South Windsor. Immediately following she will be laid to rest at Mount St. Benedict Cemetery in Bloomfield. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Kidney Fund.
