Eileen Farren, of Philadelphia and Ireland, passed away on February 2, 2024. Born in Staigue, County Kerry, Ireland, she was the daughter of the late Michael and Mary Ann Curran (nee O'Sullivan).
Eileen was the beloved wife of the late John Farren; loving mother of Mary Ann Nicholson (Bill), Eileen O'Neill (Sean), Michael Farren (Anita), and Kevin Farren (Liz); adoring grandmother of Roisin, Sean, Fiona, Kelly, Clare, Patrick, Angela, Gina, Kaitlin, Kevin, and Kieran; caring great-grandmother of Seany, Hannah, Maeve and Kerry. Predeceased by her children, John, Patricia, and Baby Brian Farren and her grandchild, Jamie. Also survived by her many loving nieces and nephews.
Eileen left Kerry and made her life in Philadelphia at the young age of 21.
Boarding the Britania from Cobh to sail for the hopes and dreams so many Irish held dear. Making many friends in Philadelphia and enjoying the wonderful Irish Community there that welcomed so many. Eileen met John Farren and they started their life together in 1955. Eileen spent her years working in hospitality and caregiving. Eileen was the type of woman who was a Mother to all. Her kindness, generosity and welcome extended far beyond the boundaries of her own family. The door to her home was always open, the table was always set, and Eileen was there at the end of every phone call with loving reassurance that all would work out. Leaving Philadelphia for Upper Darby with their growing family, John and Eileen spent many happy years within the Irish Community of Delaware County. They returned to Ireland often with their children and kept ties with home in Ireland. Eileen's willingness to help gained her many friends. Always ready with her Treacle bread, scones, and meatballs to bring to a gathering.
Eileen was a loving person who was always willing to help anyone in need. Throughout her wonderful life and over so many years, Eileen was committed to her family, friends and those in need of help. Eileen’s generosity and kindness was so incredible she would welcome anyone with open heart and arms. Eileen's love for mass, Irish music and history, dancing, friends and family are just a few of the treasures in her long and wonderful life. Eileen's incredible smile and infectious laughter was always present and she enjoyed activities to keep her very active for many years. Eileen's long and wonderful life will always be remembered and never forgotten. Especially her favorite toast of Slainte!! at all our gatherings.
We will miss her dearly.
