Elaine Reid

Elaine (Smith) Reid, 88, of Evansville, Indiana, passed away Saturday, June 21, 2025 at her home surrounded by family.
Elaine was born in Delta, Missouri on April 11, 1937 to the late William Earl and Verda (Chaney) Smith. She graduated from Delta High School in 1954 and received her teaching degree from South East Missouri State College. Elaine taught elementary education for six years. Elaine put teaching on hold to raise her family but never stopped mentoring and discipling young women and men through the years. She was a faithful member of Christian Fellowship Church where she was active in a Bible study group. Elaine enjoyed sewing and was an avid reader. Her unselfish, sacrificial, servant heart was evident her whole life. Elaine will always be remembered for her sweet, gentle, Christ-like spirit and will be deeply missed.
Elaine is survived by her loving husband of 65 years, John K. Reid of Evansville, IN; daughters, Tammie May (Larry) of Evansville, IN and Tina Sernett (Tom) of Chicago, IL; sister, Yvonne Robinson; brothers, Sam Smith (Judy) and Mike Smith (Bonnie); grandchildren, Travis May (Kelsey), Carly Eason (Paul), Caitlin Sernett (Steph Koontz), Dani Sernett (Mitch Johnson) and Diana May; great grandchildren, Sadie, Liam, Caleb and Nathan; brother-in-law, Frank Bean; and many nieces and nephews.
Elaine was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, JoAnn Herod, Mary Ellen Bean and Lucy Caldwell.
A celebration of Elaine's life will be held at 10:00 am on Wednesday, June 25, 2025 at Browning Funeral Home, 738 Diamond Ave., Evansville, IN 47711 with Pastor Reid Schultheis officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery.
Friends may visit from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm on Tuesday, June 24, 2025 at Browning Funeral Home and again from 9:00 am until service time on Wednesday at the funeral home.
