With immense love and respect, we honor the life of Eleanor Frances Black, who transitioned from this life to the next on February 12, 2024. Born in Corning, New York, on December 7, 1949, Eleanor was a beacon of love, warmth and faith, fondly known by many as Mom, Grandma/Gram, Aunt, Sister, and Wife. Her life was a testament of service, dedication, and unconditional love, reflecting the words of John 14:1-3. "Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me. My Father's house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am."
Eleanor was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend who filled every room with joy and laughter. She was a consummate hostess, known for her ability to cook for large groups, and her home was always open to anyone in need of a warm meal or friendly conversation. Eleanor served the local Catholic Church as an Administrative Assistant for 22 years, a testament to her deep faith and commitment to her community. Her love for her children and grandchildren was the cornerstone of her life. She and her late husband, Jack, were pillars in their church, regularly attending services at Devotion House Ministries.
Eleanor leaves a legacy of love and devotion, survived by her children: Nancy Koschik, Joseph (Shauna) Black, Shawn (Tammy) Black, Jonathan (Christine) Black, and Rebecca Hamilton. Her memory will also be cherished by her grandchildren: Ryan, Brady, Lauren, Anthony, Jakob, Sydney, Eli, Bryce, Theo, Hope, Charlie, Andrew (Molly), Alex, and Aaron. Her brother Adrian Downing, Jr., and brother-in-law Gary Johnson, as well as many nieces and nephews, will miss her greatly.
Eleanor was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Jack Black, Jr., her parents Adrian Downing, Sr. and Eleanor (Mullen) Downing, her in-laws Jack Black, Sr. and Anna (Collins) Black, her sisters Barbara Hilton and Kim Johnson, her brother Robert Sr., and her sons-in-law Mark Koschik and Steven Hamilton. Eleanor will forever be remembered as a woman of faith, service, and boundless love.
We invite all those who knew her to share their memories and photos on the memorial page. In the words of 2 Timothy 4:7, "I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith." Indeed, Eleanor has finished her race, and we celebrate her life with gratitude and love. May you forever be in our hearts and memories, Eleanor.

She was such a great person. Knew her for years. Always wanted her family and friends to be happy. Some of us would get together for breakfast at Bob Evans. At times she would buy different people their breakfast. She would say I have to go to Walmart to pick up my groceries. She loved her family and cared for them.
