Elias "Leo" Uriegas Sr., a cherished husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and brother, passed away on October 13, 2024, at the age of 83 in San Antonio, TX. Born on August 9, 1941, in Losoya, TX, to Manuel Gamboa Uriegas and Leonor Terrazas Uriegas, Leo led a life marked by dedication to his family and his country.
Leo proudly served in the US Air Force, retiring as a Master Sergeant after 22 years of distinguished service. During his military tenure, he was stationed across the globe, displaying his commitment and resilience. His service included time in the Vietnam War, a period that he often recounted with a deep sense of pride. Following his military career, Leo continued to work internationally with the Army and Air Force Exchange Service (AAFES), after contributing many years at VIA Transit.
His love for his family was evident in his pride for his numerous children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He especially loved having his whole family over for the annual 4th of July barbecue he hosted. He enjoyed watching old cowboy movies, doing yardwork with his riding lawn mower, and sharing tales of his younger days.
Leo leaves behind his loving wife of 61 years, Cora Uriegas, his children Elias Uriegas Jr. and wife Beth, Manuel Uriegas, Anthony Uriegas and wife Belle, Christine Uriegas Cavazos and husband John, Cynthia Uriegas, and Liz Uriegas. He was a proud grandfather to Christopher, Joey, Jeff, Elias III, Jonathan, Jeremy, Edward, Ian, and Camden Uriegas, as well as Crystal Garza and husband Chris, Emily Uriegas. Becca Uriegas, and Justine Sanchez. His legacy continues through his great-grandchildren Elianna Garza, Daryn Cordes, Estellah Uriegas, Laila Garza, Marilyn Garza, and Christine Garza. Leo is also survived by his siblings Oralia Padilla, Rosalia Ramirez, Dalia Maldonado, Irma de la Cruz, and Manuel Uriegas.
He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings Israel Uriegas, Mary Vasquez, Emilia Alvarado, Rafaela Uriegas, and Maria Gracia Uriegas.
Family and friends are invited to gather and celebrate Leo's life at Mission Park Funeral Chapels South, located in San Antonio, TX. A viewing will be held on October 16, 2024, from 5:00pm to 8:00pm and funeral services will be conducted on October 17, 2024, at 10:00am.

Leo. 4th of July! Leo put out flags all over the fence, had the tables and chairs set up, rode his lawnmower a couple of days ahead of time. You did not mess with his Patriotic Holiday. Leo was a fantastic neighbor, to this day he was looking out for me. Leo will be missed.....another Angel in Heaven to watch over us all.
