Elisabeth Martha Stoker Culp passed away on April 7th, 2024. She was born on December 22nd, 1938, in Berlin, Germany, where her American mother and South African father resided during her father’s service as Secretary of the South African legation. In the wake of the war, the family moved to Rome where her father held a similar post before they eventually settled in Pretoria, South Africa.

Elisabeth earned her Bachelor’s degree at the University of Pretoria before coming to Indiana, her mother’s birthplace, to earn a graduate degree at Indiana University.

It was in Indianapolis where she met her beloved life partner, Charles W Culp. Their marriage in Pretoria in September 1962 marked the beginning of a journey filled with love, companionship, and shared endeavors.

Elisabeth had two children, Charles (Charlie), who married Betsy Hay, and Virginia (Ginny), who married Dominic Simpson. Elisabeth reveled in the role of grandmother, finding immense joy in the lives of her five grandchildren: Caroline and Peter Culp in St. Paul, Minnesota, and James, Elisabeth, and William in the picturesque countryside of Suffolk, United Kingdom.

Deeply rooted in her faith and guided by the principles of Christ's eternal love, Elisabeth dedicated herself to serving others. Her altruistic spirit found expression through volunteer work, particularly in organizations devoted to protecting the unborn and their mothers, promoting literacy among students, and advancing causes aligned with her Christian values.

Throughout her life, Elisabeth actively engaged with various social clubs and community initiatives, leaving an indelible mark on those she encountered. Her involvement in organizations such as the Indianapolis Woman’s Club, Junior League, Indianapolis Garden Club, The Progressive Club, the Dramatic Club, the Contemporary Club, Traders Point Hunt, and Concerned Women for America reflected her commitment to building a better society.

If you wish to make a contribution in memory of Elisabeth, the following charities held special significance for her: Joni & Friends, Wheeler Mission Ministries, and Indiana Right to Life.

The service to honor Elisabeth's life will take place on Thursday, June 6th, 2024, at the Zionsville Fellowship Church, located at 9090 W Oak St, Zionsville, IN 46077. Visitation will be held from 10:00 to 11:15 a.m., followed by the service from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Elisabeth's legacy of love, service, and unwavering faith will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to know her.
