POUGHKEEPSIE - Elizabeth Lou Burchfield, 87, an area resident for over 50 years, died on December 19, 2024 at New York Columbia Presbyterian Hospital.
Born in Yonkers on March 9, 1937, she was the daughter of Alexander Cameron and Rena (Dyer) Porter. Elizabeth had been employed as a cook for New York State at the Wassaic Developmental Center. She was a member of the Freedom Plains Presbyterian Church. Elizabeth loved art, and enjoyed cooking, baking and watching political news. Over the last few months as she got more sick, her daughter Gina and grandchildren Katelyn and Cameron never left her side. Whenever you see a nice rock or pretty flowers, think of Betty.
Elizabeth is survived by her children, Robert Burchfield and wife Cynthia, David Burchfield and wife Maureen, James Burchfield, William Burchfield and wife Kathie, and Regina Burchfield and her significant other Geoconda Villon; 13 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and 1 great, great-grandson; along with several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, her stepfather, James Porter; her husband, Clarence; her son, Donald; her sister Barbara Shook and her beloved dog Nessie.
A Celebration of Elizabeth's Life will be held on 3/9/2025 at 2:00pm at the Freedom Plains Presbyterian Church.
Memorial donations may be made to the Dutchess County SPCA.
