Surrounded in love, Elizabeth "Betty" R. (Rasile) Finn, age 84 of Mercer, formerly of Fox Chapel/O'Hara Township, passed on Thursday August 31, 2023. Beloved wife of the late Ambrose J. Finn.
Dear mother of Bettina (Stephen) Sipe, Kenneth and James Finn. Proud grandmother of Connor, Trevor, Amelia and Tyler. Beloved sister of William F. (Maryann) Rasile. Cherished aunt of Marisa, Andria and many great nieces and nephews.
Betty's love for her family and friends was an inspiration to all who were blessed to know her. The daughter of a first-generation Italian father and appalachian West Virginia mother, Elizabeth grew up on the East side of Pittsburgh. An immensely talented and classically-trained singer, Betty's angelic vocals led the local Catholic choirs in worship and Ave Maria. Betty graduated from Westinghouse high school and followed in her father's footsteps as a hairstylist in his East End "William Rasile Beauty Salon" for over 60 years.
Betty enjoyed traveling far and wide, to Germany, Bermuda, Hawaii, Florida and the Carolinas, and especially cross-country to the Pacific Northwest with her special Aunt Keeky, usually by train. As fate would have it, she met the love of her life in a train car while traveling thru Montana. Andy and Betty celebrated 50 incredible years in 2015, and Betty served as Andy's caregiver in later years as he embarked upon his journey with Alzheimer's. Betty's source of greatest joy was deeply rooted in her love for her family and close cherished friends, as she created a beautiful, idyllic home life on Yorkshire Drive; the aroma of her special homemade marinara sauce a constant, as was the presence of her beloved Bonnie lab and KitKat underfoot and also where she cultivated beautiful flowers and gardens, including her bright "begonias" as her brother Billy would often joke! She spoke often with pride of what she deemed her greatest accomplishment, her children, grandchildren, and nieces, and made it a point to travel to every high school and college soccer game, no matter where the location or weather. Ever the doting and beloved Nana, Betty provided many years of loving care, trips to the pool, school events, beach vacations, etc. alongside her grandchildren (and laughed when on occasion, a toddler would lock her out of the house!) Betty cherished her dear lifelong friends, including Rosemarie and Tony Treser, who remain close in our hearts to this day.
In later years, as she began her own journey with Alzheimer's, Betty remained the songbird, bringing joy to the halls of Amber Woods Assisted Living and Avalon Springs Nursing home. She never gave up hope for the day that she would once again find her beloved Andy on the train car, destined for the greatest of trips. All who knew Betty are comforted knowing that there is a rejoicing and most glorious of reunions in the Heavens as we speak!
Betty leaves with us a legacy of love, a model of kindness and care, and an ability to find beauty and joy in the world around us that serves as an inspiration to all.
"May the road rise to meet you. May the wind always be at your back. May the sun shine warm upon your face and until we meet again. May the Lord hold you in the palm of his hand."
