Betty, or "Great Betty" as her great granddaughter affectionately dubbed her, passed away after 95 years of a largely healthy life. She was born on Long Island, one of 9 in a blended Polish family. A child of the Depression Era, she left school after the eighth grade to contribute to the family, working in catering, a pocketbook factory and eventually in the Helena Rubenstein cosmetics factory. It is there that she met her beloved husband Gino. After marrying in May of 1960, they moved to Poughkeepsie where she became a full-time homemaker. Her husband, children and eventually grandchildren were always foremost in everything she did and she was their biggest fan in all endeavors, especially at the ballfield.
Gino's love of baseball quickly grew on Betty and she became a dedicated New York Yankees fan, although it was sometimes hard to tell by the way she yelled at them when they didn't do well. In her children's & grandchildrens' youth Betty was a regular at Spratt Park in Poughkeepsie, watching the games and cheering from the sidelines. Late in life this continued as she especially loved the softball team on which her son Jim, and grandson, Matt, played. Members of the team adopted her as "grandma", and considered her their number one fan. She was also a long time bowler, and even after retiring from the sport she could be found at the lanes cheering on her former teammates.
Sporting her signature blue hat, she enjoyed going out on many scenic drives and was always up for a stop at the ice cream stand. She loved trips to the ocean where she would dip her toes in the water, even if it was cold, and simply sitting by the Hudson River at Quiet Cove. Visits to the Saratoga Race Course and stops at the casino were also favorite activities.
She is survived by her children, James Guarnaccia (Mary Guarnaccia), Estelle Boskus (Jim Boskus), her three grandchildren, Mark Guarnaccia, Matthew Guarnaccia (Erica Treventi), and Daniel Guarnaccia (Jacki Brown), and Eliana, her great granddaughter.
Betty was predeceased by her husband Gino Guarnaccia, brothers Frank Goode, Tony, Johnny & Henry Novesky and her sisters Glady Sandillo, Helen Yoniak, Eleanor Moccia & Barbara Zukas.
Visitation will be held Sunday June 29, 2025 from 2:00pm to 4:00pm at the Timothy P. Doyle Funeral Home located at 371 Hooker Ave Poughkeepsie New York 12603. Funberal Service will be held Monday June 30, 2025 at 9:30 am at St. Martin DePorres. Burial will take place following the service at St. Peters Cemetery.
