Elizabeth Mae (Liz) Marren, 85, of Ashburn, Virginia, and formerly of King of Prussia and Villanova, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully on January 11, 2025, following a brief illness with cancer.
She was born Elizabeth Mae Veldhoven in Philadelphia, PA, on August 21, 1939, daughter and eldest child of the late John Veldhoven and Margaret Veldhoven Rees (née Gardner).
Liz graduated from Interboro High School in Glenolden, PA, in 1957. From there, she became a registered nurse after completing her training at Montgomery Hospital, Norristown, PA, in 1960. In 1962, she married her husband, Bob Marren, and worked as a nurse at Women's Medical College in Philadelphia. After taking several years off to raise her children, she returned to work as the school nurse at Eastern Baptist Theological Seminary in Wynnewood, PA.
In 1982, Liz joined St. Edmond's Home for Children in Rosemont, PA, where she worked as a head nurse on the Boys Hall. She retired after more than 30 years of dedicated service, during which she formed many lasting friendships.
In retirement, she became actively involved with the Upper Merion Senior Center in King of Prussia, PA. She enjoyed singing, organizing regular lunch dates, and cherishing the company of her many close friends.
Liz was also a talented painter, taking classes to refine her craft. She loved vacationing in Cape May, NJ, where her parents lived, and spending time with her children and grandchildren. A proud alumna of Interboro High School, she attended every class reunion and often played a key role in organizing the events.
Liz is survived by her brother, John Veldhoven, and his wife, Jean, of Hudson, MA; her sister, Jane McGuire, of Norwood, PA; her children, John and his wife, Kim, of Wayne, PA, Gregory and his wife, Laura, of Murfreesboro, TN, and Dawn Marren Eisert of Ashburn, VA; and her stepchildren, Robert Marren, Jr., and Christopher Marren, both of Lindley, NY, and Sherry Bailey, of Philadelphia, PA. She is also survived by her many grandchildren, step-grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, Liz was predeceased by her husband of 50 years, Robert Marren, in 2012, and her stepson, William Marren, in 2020.
Friends and relatives are invited to attend her memorial visitation on Saturday, February 8, 2025, at Cavanagh Family Funeral Homes, 301 Chester Pike, Norwood, PA, from 9:30 – 11:00 AM. A service will follow at 11:00 AM.
