MT. VERNON, INDIANA
Elizabeth Jean Uhde (affectionately known as "Punky"), 88, of Mt. Vernon, Indiana, born to Othell and Melba Louise (Baker) Giles on May 18, 1936 in Scurry, Texas, passed away in La Grange, Kentucky of natural causes on April 23, 2025, surrounded in love by her family.
Punky proudly graduated from Griffin High School in 1954 (where she enjoyed playing softball and forging life-long friendships). One day later she married her sweetheart Jerry Uhde. Together they built a life of blessings filled with joy and some sadness. Their love triumphed one day shy of 71 years together. She worked for MSD of Mt. Vernon where she retired as a teacher's aide at Farmersville Elementary School. During retirement, they enjoyed living on Barkley Lake for many years before moving "home." While living in Kentucky, she was awarded the Kentucky Colonel. Throughout the years, she experienced much joy with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Punky was preceded in death by her parents; infant son: Geoffrey Paul Uhde; parents-in-law: Ralph and Ethel Uhde; sister and brother-in-law: Deena and Jimmy Williams; sister-in-law and brother-in-law: Judy and Frank Alvis; and her infant grandchild: Lacey Elizabeth Uhde.
She is survived by her husband: Jerry Uhde; son: Gregory Uhde (Sherry) of Robards, Kentucky; daughter: Gina Yegerlehner (Keith) of Louisville, Kentucky; daughter: Gayla Werry (John) of Poseyville, Indiana; grandchildren: Rachel Dorsey (Caleb), Amanda Dyer (Marcus), Tyler Yegerlehner, Samantha Nieten (Tony), Jordan Newman (Wyatt) and Madison Werry; great-grandchildren: Harrison and Decker Dyer, Clinton, Raegan and James Dorsey, Cora and Blakely Nieten and Sophia Newman along with several special nephews and niece.
The family would like to thank Melissa Cobin, their caretaker and friend.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m., Saturday, April 26, 2025, at the Werry Funeral Home in Poseyville, Indiana with burial in Poseyville Cemetery in Poseyville, Indiana at a later date.
Visitation will be 9 a.m. until service time, Saturday, April 26, 2025 at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: Griffin Community Ruritan Club Foundation, PO Box 233, Griffin, IN 47616.
