Elizabeth Irene Yarbrough, a devoted mother, grandmother, teacher, and friend, passed away peacefully on July 16, 2025, at the age of 73. Born and raised in Bolivar, Tennessee, Irene lived a life full of love, learning, and laughter. She is survived by her daughter Caroline, son-in-law Jason and her grandchildren Carson and West Fisher Wells.
Irene earned her Master's degree in Education from the University of Memphis and spent over 25 years teaching in the Hardeman County and Madison County school systems. She had a natural gift for teaching and a deep love for her students-many of whom still remember her kindness, patience, and dedication.
Outside the classroom, Irene found joy in life's simple pleasures. She loved to garden and spend time outside. She treasured time spent with her family and close friends, was an avid fan of mystery novels and never missed her daily soap operas-those stories brought her endless entertainment and comfort.
In recent years, Irene called Lexington, Kentucky home, where she was happiest being "Nana" to her two grandchildren, Carson and West. Her love for them was endless, and she took great pride in every moment she shared with them.
A visitation will be held on Sunday, July 20th from 1:00 to 3:00 PM at St. James Episcopal Church in Bolivar, Tennessee, with a service to follow. She will be laid to rest at Polk Cemetery.
Irene touched many lives, and her spirit will live on through the love she gave so freely. She will be missed, remembered, and cherished always.
