Ella M. Groff

Ella M. Groff, 97, of Lancaster, PA, entered heaven's glory on Saturday morning, April 5, 2025 at Trillium Place (formerly Mennonite Home). Born in Manor Township, she was the daughter of the late David Avery and Mary Irene Murry Hess. Ella was preceded in death by husbands Melvin S. Groff (2015), Mahlon H. High (1998), and Ray N. Mylin (1975).

Ella was raised in a farming family and graduated with the 1946 class from Manor-Millersville High School, having completed the Commercial curriculum. After working briefly for Turkey Hill Dairy, she spent many years as a homemaker, raising four children while also supporting the rental business of her first husband. She enjoyed working in her flower beds and garden, playing softball with the ladies of the church, and observing birds. In later years, she was able to enjoy international travel.

Ella was a life-long member of Manor Brethren in Christ Church. She volunteered in a variety of roles but especially enjoyed singing in the choir. She eagerly supported the programs and ministry of the local and international BIC church by participating, as a prayer warrior, and with her finances.

She is survived by three children, Leland H, husband of Lorene Wingert Mylin, of Shiremanstown, Lawrence M., husband of Linda (Fulmer) Mylin, of Columbia, and Lauretta R., wife of Frederic Wendling, of Camp Hill; six grandchildren; four great grandchildren; and three siblings, Ruth Chapman of Elizabethtown, Alta, wife of Elmer McDonald, of MN, and Verna Swartz of Lititz. She was also preceded in death by a son, Lewis R. Mylin in 1979; and five siblings, Mahlon Hess, Elvin Hess, Anna May Habecker, Erma Shelly, and David Hess.

A celebration of Ella's life will be held on Monday, April 14 beginning at 11 AM at the Manor Brethren in Christ Church, 530 Central Manor Road, Lancaster, PA. There will be no public viewing. The family will receive guests on the same day from 10 AM until the time of the service. Interment will be in the adjoining cemetery immediately following the service.
