Ella Vern Warren, age 90, of Hazlehurst passed away Saturday, August 2, 2025 at her residence surrounded by her loving family and caregivers who were her second family.
Mrs. Warren was born January 24, 1935 in Bacon County to the late Joe Cothern and the late Geneva Taylor Cothern. After becoming the mother to 5 children, she went back to school and became a Licensed Practical Nurse. She worked with tremendous dedication to the profession, and loved her work, patients, and fellow workers. She graduated as the Salutatorian of her nursing class. She retired from Jeff Davis Hospital after more than 27 years of service. She was an avid traveler seeing more than 38 states during her lifetime. Her travel journals are full of wonderful memories of unique places visited. She was an active member of Southside Baptist Church and attended without fail until her health made it impossible to do so. She was a wonderful example to her family of how to survive and keep a positive attitude although suffering tremendous personal tragedy. Mrs. Warren was preceded in death by her sons, Joe Kenneth Taylor, Ashley Wayne Taylor, and Jimmy Ray Taylor, daughter, Jackie Lavene Taylor; grandson, Ashley Dwight Taylor; brother, James “Bud” Cothern, and sister, Vernell Cothern Mincey.
Survivors include her husband, Charles Warren of Hazlehurst; son, Tim Taylor of Hazlehurst; daughters-in-law, Sandra Taylor and Shelia Taylor both of Hazlehurst; and grandchildren, Kevin (Christa) Taylor, Jason (Jamie) Taylor, Justin (Amy) Taylor, Anna (Gunner) Jackson, and Kara Taylor (Rudy); great grandchildren, A. J. Pritchett, Nolan Jackson, Lainey Pritchett, Erin Taylor, Katie Taylor, Jada Taylor, Ty Taylor, Tucker Taylor, and Adi Taylor.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, August 6, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at Southside Baptist Church with Rev. Jeffery Spell officiating and a eulogy by Jason Taylor.
Visitation will be one hour prior to the funeral service.
Interment will follow in Satilla Free Will Baptist Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Jason Taylor, Justin Taylor, Kevin Taylor, Ty Taylor, Tucker Taylor, and Roger Ogilvie.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Swain Funeral Home.
