Ellen Giglio Horner

Ellen Giglio Horner, age 96, passed away Saturday, January 6, 2024. She was born on February 9, 1927, in New Orleans, Louisiana to the late Hilda Casanovas Giglio and Philip Giglio. Ellen lived in New Orleans most of her life. Six years ago, she moved to Harahan. She retired after 30 years with the Louisiana Department of Health where she worked as a clerk. When she was younger, Ellen enjoyed spending time with the Horner and Roquette Families of Mandeville. Talking on the phone with friends and family, especially her best friend, Blanche Dieudonne was her favorite pastime.
Ellen is preceded in death by her husband, Benjamin Harrison Horner and her brother C.L. (Buddy) Giglio (Eugenie). She is survived by her cousin and Godchild, Cleveland P. Casanovas; her cousin Elizabeth Casanovas Guidroz; her nieces Connie Horner of Georgia, JeanAnn Giglio of Benton, AR, Blanche G.Nichols (Stephen) of Baton Rouge, LA; nephew Drew P. Giglio (Janet) of Carriere, MS, and a host of great nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank the staff at St. Joseph of Harahan for the care they have shown Ellen over the past six years. They would also like to thank St. Catherine Hospice for providing comfort and care. The family would like to thank Father Mike Mitchell of Our Lady of Divine Providence for his spiritual support. A graveside service will be held on Friday, February 9, 2024, starting at 1:00 at Greenwood Cemetery, 5190 Canal Blvd., New Orleans, LA 70124.
