Ellen E Ruckel (VanSlyck) born in the Bronx on November 17, 1936 to William and Mary VanSlyck, and moved to Congers, NY in 1981, passed away peacefully at home on July 1, 2024.
She was predeceased by her childhood sweetheart, husband William, and beloved granddaughter Samantha Guarino. Ellen is survived by her children, William Ruckel (Sam), Joanne Francoual (Miss Loretta Lynn), Carol Guarino (Kevin), Dianne Pinto (Tony), and James Ruckel (Harriett). Ellen was the proud and loving grandmother to Thomas (Yvonne), Matthew, Cassandra, Lucas, Mya, Faith, Darrel, Ruan, Merlin, and Gwyddeon. She was also blessed with three great-grandchildren, Dylan, Jackson, and Mason. She is survived by her companion Warren Brandt, whom she had a special and loving relationship with for many years. She is also survived by her sister Mary (Walter) Lyons, and predeceased by her brothers William (Bridie) Vanslyck and Frank (Kay) VanSlyck. Ellen also is survived by dozens of nieces and nephews whom she loved and adored.
Arrangements will be held at Joseph W. Sorce Funeral Home in West Nyack, NY on Friday, July 5, 2024 from 4:00pm to 8:00pm.
A funeral mass will be held on Saturday, July 6, 2024 at 10:00am at St. Ann's Church in Nyack, NY. Burial will be at All Faiths Cemetery in Middle Village, Queens, NY. In lieu of flowers, please donate in Ellen's name to the Parkinson's or Alzheimer's charity of your choosing. Ellen took great joy in family and friends and in volunteering her time and love to many charitable organizations. She left behind a beautiful legacy, and will be missed by many.
