Ellis G. Fields Jr., age 66, of Orrville, died Thursday, August 8, 2024, at the Justin T. Rogers Care Center Hospice in Akron, following a long period of declining health.
Ellis was born on February 11, 1958, in Orrville, to the late Ellis and Bertha (Birdsong) Fields and graduated from Orrville High School in 1977.
He worked at Quality Castings in Orrville for many years and began working as a truck driver in the 1980s. He drove for several companies including Metallic Recycling, JB Hunt, Rt. 66, and Charger. He eventually owned his own company, TNT, most recently drove for W.L. Logan Trucking in Massillon. He retired in 2017 after more than 30 years of driving.
Ellis was a member of the New Life Assembly Church in Wooster. He was an avid softball player, playing for numerous teams over the years. Was a Cleveland Browns and Guardians fan. Most of all, Ellis loved spending time with his family as a son, brother, father and grandfather.
Surviving are two daughters, Tanika Fields and Quiaja Joplin, both of Akron; two step-sons, Demetrius Simpson of Mansfield and Charles Simpson of Orrville; three step-daughters, Andrea (Juan) Tino of Dalton, GA, Amber (Willie) Ballard of Orrville, and Danielle Young of Orrville; 23 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; seven siblings, Elyce Herring of Columbus, Toni Brown of Canton, Duane (Rita) Fields Sr. of Wooster, Terry Jones of Canton, Kalynn (Allen) Robinson of Columbus, Kevin Fields, Sr. of Wooster, and Desirae Robinson of Wooster; and a host of extended family and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Denver Rose Galanski; and a great grandson, Domani Leedon.
Memorial services will be held at 1:00 pm on September 7, 2024, at Auble Funeral Home, 512 East Oak Street, Orrville.
