Elton E. Brownell, a longtime resident of Johnstown, NY, passed away on August 13, 2025, at the age of 90.
Born on February 2, 1935, in Fort Plain, NY he was the son of the late William and Louise (McRory) Brownell.
Elton grew up in Fort Plain, where he made a name for himself as a standout baseball and basketball player. A proud member of the Future Farmers of America, he spent his early years working on the family farms. Throughout his life, Elton owned and ran several businesses, but farming was always his true calling. An avid bowler and golfer, he also enjoyed these pastimes, though nothing brought him more joy than spending time with his family and friends.
Elton is survived by his beloved wife, Janice (Haviland) Brownell; daughter, Barbara Petrones, Ellen Anadio (Ralph); stepchildren, Douglas Browning and June Jones; grandchildren, Tom Petrones (Kim), Jay Petrones (Tatum), Andrea Anadio, Christopher Augustine, Kelly Bevins (Brandon), Matthew Johnson; great grandchildren, Caitlin Pitkin, Jonathan Pitkin, Anthony Malloch, Lucas Petrones, Aidan Petrones, Zane Petrones, Kai Petrones, Olivia Bevins, Isla Bevins; Great-great grandchildren, Mylee Malloch, Eliana Pitkin; sister, Adeline Bowley; and many cherished nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Elton is predeceased by his children, Elaine Augustine (husband Vance not deceased) and Elton Brownell Jr.
Calling hours for family and friends will be held on Thursday August 21, 2025, from 4:00 PM until 6:00 PM at the A.G. Cole Funeral Home, 215 E. Main Street, Johnstown followed by a Funeral Service at 6:00 PM at the funeral home.
