Lincoln – Emilie C. (Broberg) Forest, R.N., 90, formerly of Pawtucket, passed away peacefully on Monday, February 5, 2024. She was the beloved wife of the late Robert N. Forest. Born in East Providence, she was a daughter of the late Oscar and Sophie (Renken) Broberg.
Emilie grew up in East Providence and attended school there, graduating from East Providence High School in 1951. After high school, Emilie dreamed of becoming a nurse and studied at Rhode Island Hospital School of Nursing. After graduation in 1954, she went to work as a Registered Nurse at Rhode Island Hospital. Emilie later moved to Boston with a dear nursing friend, Stella, and she worked as a nurse at Beth Israel Hospital, Boston and later Dartmouth Hospital, NH. In 1959, Emilie married Robert N. Forest and the couple moved to San Antonio, Texas. Upon the birth of their first child, they returned home to Rhode Island to raise their growing family. Once her children had grown, Emilie returned to her earlier profession and pursued her career in nursing. For the next decade or so, Emile enjoyed working with the elderly population serving as an RN in several nursing homes in RI including Pawtucket Institute for Health and Evergreen Nursing Home. After retiring, Emilie devoted herself to taking care of her husband and adored babysitting their grandchildren. She also enjoyed cooking, gardening, music, reading to learn new things and just for pleasure. Throughout the years, Emilie remained very active in a variety of ways at St. Paul's Episcopal Church. She sang in the choir there for many years and especially enjoyed being involved in outreach capacities such as a pastoral care program. Helping others was always her passion! Emilie and her husband eventually retired to Sarasota, Florida where she really enjoyed making new friends and participating in new pursuits such as book club, water aerobics and playing Rummikub. In November of 2015, Emilie and Robert moved back to RI and into Atria Lincoln Place. At Atria, Emilie resided happily for the next 8 years making new friends and pursuing the many activities Atria offered. It was there at Atria where Emilie could continue 'her nursing' and care for others through her volunteerism as a social ambassador and friend to all. She loved meeting new people and was especially good at helping brand new residents of Atria become acquainted with their new home. "I like helping and talking to people," she recently said, "It is so interesting!". Spending quality time with family and talking and writing to her many cherished friends became the focus for her latter years. Emilie will certainly be lovingly remembered by all whose lives she has touched over the past ninety years.
Emilie leaves two children, Robert J. Forest and his wife, Jill, of Plymouth and Susan (Forest) Barnes and her husband, Michael, of East Greenwich; four grandchildren and three step-grandchildren, Rachael and Matthew Forest, Jonathan and Julia Barnes, and Kalyn, Haley and Jessica Bishop. Emilie was also the loving mother of three additional sons who predeceased her in death. They are as follows; William, Thomas and James Forest. Emilie also had a sister, the late Mathilda (Broberg) Maymon who resided in New Hampshire with her family until her passing.
VISITATION will be held on Saturday from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. at WILLIAM W. TRIPP Funeral Home, 1008 Newport Ave., Pawtucket, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 2 p.m. at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 50 Park Pl., Pawtucket. Interment at Rehoboth Village Cemetery will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts to either RI Community Food Bank, 200 Niantic Ave., Providence, RI 02907 or The Jimmy Fund, 450 Brookline Ave., Boston, MA 02215 or St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 50 Park Pl., Pawtucket, RI 02860 would be appreciated.
