Emily Brown Cox of St. George Utah; at 102 years old, passed away peacefully on June 4, 2025. She lived a very full and amazing life, and her family finds comfort in knowing that she has been reunited with her husband, Parke.
Emily was born in Scipio, Utah on October 20, 1922. She was the second of three daughters born to Lonzo and Norma Mathews Brown. Emily loved being raised in the small town of Scipio. She enjoyed the slower and simpler days of growing up on a farm and working alongside her family. She always reminisced about her days spent in Scipio and loved to share stories from her childhood. When Emily was 6 years old her father passed away suddenly from appendicitis. Five years later, her mother, Norma remarried and they had one son, Leon.
Emily attended Millard High School and enjoyed being bussed with her Scipio friends into the big town of Fillmore. After graduating from high school in 1940, Emily moved to St. George to attend Dixie College. She met Parke Cox during her first semester in college.
Parke and Emily were married in St. George on September 12, 1942, and were later sealed in the St. George Temple on July 8, 1943. They were lifelong companions in every sense of the word. They were married for over 81 years. During their marriage, five children were born, Tina, Karen, Jolene, David, and Donald. Together Parke and Emily started Parke Cox Trucking in 1946. Even though the business didn't have her name in the title, Emily was absolutely the backbone of that company. She first started out washing the driver's clothes and making them breakfast out of their family home. But it was her bookkeeping skills, her ability to memorize the VIN numbers to each truck, the extra care she took with licensing, taxes and payroll, and the way she spent their money wisely, that made her so very valuable. Emily went in to work almost every day until she was 97 years old.
Emily loved her family and always enjoyed spending time with them. Many hours were spent around the dining room table with family telling stories and laughing until late into the night. Her children admired her for always being incredibly supportive of them in all that they did and for never telling them what they could have done or should have done. instead, she listened and loved and always encouraged. Her children have always known that they've had their Mother's loving support.
Emily was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and was a part of the St. George 8th Ward, where she made dear and cherished friends over 75 years.
Emily is survived by her children: Tina Cox, Karen Cox Reber, Jolene Cox Johnson, David's wife Elaine Cox, and Donald (Laurie) Cox; 15 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Parke, who passed away in March of 2024, as well as her beloved son, David who passed away in April of 2023, along with 2 grandsons Cortney and Trevor, her parents, siblings (Phyllis, Klea, and Leon) and many other family and friends.
The family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to The Abbington Senior Living and Applegate Home Care & Hospice facilities.
A public viewing will be held on Monday June 9, 2025, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Metcalf Mortuary, 288 West St. George Blvd., St. George, Utah. A private family graveside service will be held at Tonaquint Cemetery.

So sorry to hear of your Mothers passing but she lived a long, wonderful life. I can´t make the device because I am in Salt Lake after knee surgery but I give you my sincere condolences in her passing. She was such an example of beauty and grace and she will be missed.
