Eric Lorenzo Barley, affectionately known as Aleem, was born on September 28, 1964, in
Newark, New Jersey, and departed this life on Saturday, December 7, 2024, at the age of 60.
Eric began his education at Sussex Avenue Elementary School, where he attended kindergarten through third grade, and later continued at Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Elementary School, completing grades fourth through eighth. He then went on to Barringer High School, where his exceptional athletic talent shone through. A gifted athlete, Eric excelled in basketball, football, and baseball, demonstrating a passion for sports. While he chose not to pursue athletics professionally, he treasured his time playing and being part of the team during his high school years.
In his professional life, Eric was a dedicated and hard-working individual, spending many years in the warehouse industry in New Jersey and Lakeland, Florida. He took great pride in his work and was always busy, staying active and committed to doing his best.
Known for his kind heart and generous spirit, Eric was someone everyone could rely on. His easygoing nature and friendly demeanor made him beloved by all who knew him. Whether lending a helping hand to a friend, offering unwavering support to his family, or simply being there for those in need, Eric's kindness had no limits. His bond with his sister, Michelle, was particularly special one of deep love and comfort that endured throughout the years. Eric also shared a close, affectionate relationship with his mother, often referred to as a "Momma's Boy," due to the unique and tender connection they shared.
Eric's passing leaves an irreplaceable void, and his presence will be sorely missed by family and friends alike. His generosity, loyalty, and devotion to those he loved left an indelible mark on all who were fortunate enough to know him. His warmth, selflessness, and ability to go above and beyond for others will remain in the hearts of his loved ones forever.
Eric was preceded in death by his father, Lorenzo Crumell, his grandparents, Mary Lizzie McBride and Wilbert McBride, his sister, Sandra Lee Barley, his brother, Billie McBride, and his five aunts and four uncles. Eric is survived by his mother, Ruby Nell Good, and his stepfather, Ulysses T. Good. He is also remembered by his sisters, Wanda Lee Barley, Barbara Jean Shaw (and brother-in-law Richard Shaw), Felicia Michelle Barley, Dale Johnson (and brother-in-law Christopher Johnson), his brother, Donald Barley, and his aunts, Naomi McBride and Evelyn McBride.
Eric was married to Tamara Wilson Barley from May 2002 to 2009, and he maintained a cordial relationship with his stepchildren: Takiera Bunn, Shannon, Chantel, and Ashley Taylor. He leaves behind a large extended family of cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends, all of whom cherished his presence in their lives.
Eric's legacy of kindness, loyalty, and warmth will continue to live on in the hearts of all those who had the privilege of knowing him.
