Eric R. Garrow
Brandon-Eric R. Garrow, 54, of Brandon, passed away peacefully June 23, 2025, at The McClure Miller Respite House surrounded by his loved ones. He was born July 10,1970 in Rutland Vermont to Edward R. Garrow and Jean (Wortman) Garrow.
From the day he was born to his last day, Eric was a fighter. He was diagnosed with cerebral palsy and many other health issues, including at least 17 major surgeries, but that never stopped him from living life to the fullest and surpassing every hurdle and restriction placed in his path. Eric, being mostly non-verbal, found his own way to communicate.
Of course he couldn't have done it without the support, love and care from his family, caregivers, medical and mental health teams. A special thank you to Candy & Ray Counter for the amazing care, and love you gave Eric as part of your family and in your home over the last 13 years.
Eric was the life of the party, a jokester, stubborn at times, and loved everyone he met. He enjoyed spending time with his family, friends, and caregivers. He loved bowling, puzzles, music, dancing, cooking, playing the guitar when Happy Birthday was sung, swimming, crafts, shopping, game shows, Sesame Street, going for rides in the car or on the 4-wheeler, McDonald milkshakes, ketchup, playing with his calculator, cards, pads of paper and flashlights with rubber bands wrapped around them. He was famous for getting you a drink out of the fridge, cracking it open and laughing while taking a sip before he handed it over to you. He absolutely enjoyed living with Candy and Ray. He would help Candy with housework, folding clothes, vacuuming, mopping, and dusting. As Ray's buddy and shadow, he loved mowing the lawn, holding tools, especially pushing the drill button, painting, using the leaf blower and getting the creamer for Ray's coffee. Angela Oaks was his respite provider and partner in crime. She took him on many adventures including hikes, shopping, movies, out to eat, card sharks, crafts, museums, dances and multiple other activities.
He was his father's best friend, sidekick, and the light of his life. They were two peas in a pod who did everything together, including both of them taking their last breath 7 weeks apart on a Monday morning, and within minutes of it being the same exact time.
He was predeceased by his parents Edward & Jean Garrow, his grandparents Etta & Winifred Dean, William & Evelyn Garrow, William & Esther Wortman, and nephew Jacob Billings.
He is survived by his stepmother Charleen Cole, sister Christine Billings (Craig), their children Renee Hesse (Bob), their son Cameron, Lynnette Audy, Ariel Billings (Peter Baker) and their children Ryleigh & Everett. Brother Edward Garrow Jr. (Ginny) and their children Ginger Hinkley (Jason) their children Jack & Kord, Desiree Sweet and her son Daxton.
Eric is also survived by his caregivers Candy & Ray Counter and their family, his respite provider Angela Oaks, aunts and uncles: BettyAnn Harrison, Jean Glidden (David), Ruth Lawson, Becky Wilson, Roger Garrow (Diana), Bob Garrow, Rita Beardmore and Russ Garrow (Joan), Cindy Garrow-Girouard (Jay), stepsisters and their family; Tina McAndrews (Mike) and Darica Hains (Shawn), and many cousins and family members.
A celebration of life for Eric & his Father, Edward will be held together at a later date. We want to thank The McClure Miller Respite House in Colchester Vermont for their wonderful support and care over the last 6 weeks.
