Ernest Gonzales passed away peacefully at home under hospice care on July 16, 2025, at the age of 81.
Born in Beasley, Texas, to Guillermo and Benita Lopez Gonzales, Ernest was a proud Texan who lived a life of service, strength, and compassion.
He graduated from Lamar Consolidated High School and later served honorably in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. A true public servant, Ernest dedicated over three decades to the Houston Police Department, where he served from 1971 to 2004. He was also a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe, where his faith and commitment to the community remained strong.
After retirement, Ernest enjoyed traveling and spending time with his loving wife, Vicky. He will always be remembered for his generosity, kindness, quick wit, and unwavering love for his family. A devoted husband and family man, Ernest's courage and perseverance during his illness reflected his incredible spirit. Even in his most difficult days, he continued forward with dignity and strength, always with Vicky by his side.
Ernest is survived by his beloved wife, Virginia (Vicky) Gonzales; stepdaughter, Itzel Ramirez; sister, Beatrice Gonzales West (Jack); siblings-in-law, Julio Carrizales, Veronica Carrizales, Yazmin Carrizales and Aydee Carrizales; and his nieces and nephews: Mario Gonzales (Terri), Rebecca Barboza (Christopher), Andrea Gonzales (Ramiro), and Phillip Gonzales (Luciana).
He was preceded in death by his parents, Guillermo and Benita Gonzales; sister, Benita Gonzales; brothers, Bill "BG" Gonzales and Amador "Amo" Gonzales; and niece, Tiffany Lynn Gonzales.
Ernest's memory will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
Visitation will be held at Davis Greenlawn Funeral Home from 5:00 PM – 8:00 PM with a rosary at 7:00 PM on Thursday, July 24, 2025.
Funeral service will be held at Our Lady of Guadalupe - 514 Carlisle St, Rosenberg, TX 77471 on Friday, July 25, 2025 at 10:00 AM with a burial to follow.
