Ernest (Ernie) Theodore Swan was born March 1, 1938, in Mexico, MO to Ernest Theodore Swan II and Velma Irene Van Sickle Swan of Perry, MO. Ernie grew up in the small town of Perry, Mo with his siblings Mary Jo (Carter) and John (Jack) Van Swan.
Ernie attended elementary though high school in Perry, Missouri and graduated from Perry High School in 1957.
He attended the University of Missouri, Westminster College and later graduated from NE Missouri State Teachers College in Kirksville, MO. While at college in Kirksville, he played on the golf team.
Ernie met Judith Lynn Croskey (Lynn) at a Phi Kappa Psi party at the University of Missouri. They were married in March 1958 and were married for 64 years. They welcomed their first child, Lori, in Kirksville, Missouri. Ernie began a career with Sears Roebuck and the family was transferred to Lincoln, Nebraska in 1960. They welcomed David Scott in 1962 and Jacqueline "Jackie'' Corinne in 1963. The family moved to Overland Park, Kansas for two years and then finally settled in the Colonies North Summit neighborhood of San Antonio, TX in 1969.
Ernie worked for Sears his entire 36-year career, as both an automotive manager and a store manager. He retired from Sears in 1997. Ernie loved the game of golf and was a lifetime golfer. He played with family and friends as well as playing with the Sears golf league. Starting in the 1970s, he enjoyed boating at Medina Lake with his family and friends. He was dedicated to attending his children's and grandchildren's activities, including those at Marshall High School, Clark High School, University of Texas, Baylor, and Rice University. In his later years, he and Lynn participated regularly in water aerobics and enjoyed making new friends there. Ernie was a member of First Presbyterian Church of San Antonio, and the Sears Retiree Club. Ernie and Lynn enjoyed traveling.
Ernie is survived by his children Lori Powell (Terry), David (Lori), and Jackie, sister Mary Jo Carter, eight grandchildren Allison Powell Kopiasz (Nick), Grant Powell, Pamela Swan, Maxwell Swan (Sadie), Lauren Reyes, Lindsey Reyes Jackson (Scott), and Reagan Reyes and five great-grandchildren Ella, Mac, Reid, Forrest, and Houston.
Ernest is preceded in death by his father and mother, Ernest Theodore Swan II, DO and Velma Irene Van Sickle Swan, beloved wife Judith Lynn Croskey Swan, brother John Van Swan, DO and grandson Curtis Mitchell Swan.
Visitation 1:30 pm, followed by a Memorial service at 2:30 pm, August 19th, 2023, at the Fred J. Tips Mausoleum Chapel in Mission Burial Park North 20900 IH10 W San Antonio, TX 78257. Burial immediately after the service.
