Ernest Charles Ward, 72, of Tacoma, Washington went home to be with our Lord December 13, 2023. Ernie was born and raised in Fraser, Michigan. After high school, he enlisted in the Army and served for 21 years before retiring in 1992 as a Staff Sergeant.
In the Army, Ernie met Marion while they were both stationed at Ft. Sheridan, IL. In 1976, they fell in love and were happily married for 48 years. They had only known each other for 6 weeks!
After his time in the Army, Ernie held several jobs but one that he appreciated the most was handling custodial duties for the Franklin Pierce School District.
In his pastime, Ernie enjoyed watching the NFL and old westerns. Teaching youth in Sundy School at his local church was a highlight of his weekly routine. Teaching Vacation Bible School in the summer was another highlight of his Christian love.
Ernest is preceded in death by his parents Charles and Louise Ward.
Ernest is survived by his wife Marion of Tacoma, WA; his daughter Sarah (Brad) Leslie of Spanaway, WA; his son Albert Ward of Spanaway, WA; his Granddaughter Ashley Leslie, who he adored and had an unbreakable bond with; his siblings Carol Keiselhorst, Paul Ward, Sharon Trosell and Mary (Glen) Wallace. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Special thanks to ICU West and Palliative Care at Madigan Army Medical Center. I am appreciative of the care and comfort they gave Ernie while hospitalized.
In lieu of flowers, please donate to The American Cancer Society or Parkway Presbyterian Church 714 138th St E., Tacoma, WA 98445.
An inurnment service, with military honors, will take place Friday April 5, 2024, at 2:00 PM. The location will be Tahoma National Cemetery 18600 SE 240th St., Covington, WA 98042.
