Isaiah 40:31 "But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles, they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint."
Ernestine Martin Maness, 92, of Liberty is in the loving arms of our Lord and Savior as of December 13, 2025. She passed away peacefully with her daughter at her side at Beacon Place AuthoraCare Hospice in Greensboro.
To honor my mother's wishes, there will be no funeral service. I invite you to please privately celebrate Ernestine Maness' memory in your own ways. I know that she will be with us all in spirit. Thank you for your understanding during this difficult time.
Ernestine was born February 2, 1933, in Randolph County and was a longtime resident of Liberty. She graduated from Liberty High School in 1951 as Valedictorian of her class. She worked at Liberty Hosiery Mill for 16 years. She then attended "Maison de Paris College" (now Leon's Beauty School). After graduation she worked as a hairdresser at Cleta's Beauty Shop until she opened Tina's Beauty Shop in 1970. She continued to own and operate the shop until she was 80 years old. Retiring due to health issues, the shop closed in 2013.
Ernestine enjoyed fishing on the NC coast with her husband. She even caught an 8-pound Puppy Drum with a freshwater rod! She was an excellent seamstress and could make anything. She had a green thumb and there was nothing she could not grow. Her greatest enjoyment came from spending time with her husband and daughter.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 64 years, Gurney Jackson Maness, and her parents James Ernest and Louelva Cox Martin; sisters, Myrtle Kidd, Leta McAdams Lineberry, Fannie Wicker and Louise Pugh; brothers, James Martin, Mack Martin, Alan Martin, Charlie Martin and faithful cat, "Sam". Within the last year, she did not hesitate to tell anyone she was ready to go home and meet Jesus, now she has.
Surviving is her daughter, Pamela Maness Kemp of High Point plus many nieces and nephews.
A special thank you to the AuthoraCare Home Health staff that assisted her while she was at home, Tina, Faith, Gabby and Amy, the Hospice nurse that visited her in the hospital Also, the excellent care she received while at Beacon Place with special thanks to Cassie, Maria and Dee.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to AuthoraCare Collective Beacon Place 2502 Summit Avenue Greensboro, NC 27405 or to the Animal Shelter of your choice.
