Ernesto Lopez Sr. March 4, 1953 – May 14, 2025 Ernesto Lopez Sr., 72, of Bakersfield, CA, passed away on May 14, 2025. He was born on March 4, 1953, in Brownsville, Texas, to Emilio and Juanita Lopez. Ernesto spent his early years in Brownsville before moving to California, where he graduated from Arvin High School. A proud patriot, Ernesto served his country with honor in the United States Army, spending four years in active duty, including time stationed overseas in Germany. A man of deep faith, Ernesto loved his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and lived his life guided by that devotion. Known for his warm heart and joyful spirit, he found happiness in simple pleasures - chopping wood, dancing to cumbias, and spirited conversations about sports. His laugh was contagious and brought joy to all who knew him. Ernesto is survived by his beloved wife, Mariela Medina; sons Ernesto Lopez Jr., Albert Lopez, and Abel Lopez; and daughters Celina Forthman and Andrea Perez. He was a proud grandfather to seven grandsons and seven granddaughters. He is also survived by his brothers Emilio, Gilbert, Frank, Isabel, and Pedro Lopez; and his sisters Martina Martinez, Guadalupe Hancock, Juanita Rivera, Teresita Rosales, Maria Castillo, and Graciela Springer. He was preceded in death by his parents, Emilio and Juanita Lopez. A viewing will be held on Monday, May 26, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Greenlawn Funeral Home Southwest, located at 2739 Panama Lane, Bakersfield, CA 93313. A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, May 27, at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church, located at 601 E California Avenue, Bakersfield, CA 93307, followed by burial services at Greenlawn Cemetery. Ernesto will be remembered for his unwavering faith, his deep love for family, and his infectious laugh that lit up every room. He will be deeply missed.
