Ervin Anthony "Tony" Stottmann
Louisville - Ervin Anthony "Tony" Stottmann - On January 1, 1944 little did the world know then that the absolute greatest son, brother, husband, father, and friend had entered this world. Tony was a very proud graduate of St. Stephen Martyr Elementary School, Flaget High School, and Bellarmine College.
After college graduation Tony pursued a career in sales, eventually landing in the insurance industry where he obtained his CPCU from the Association of Chartered Property and Casualty Underwriters and CLU from The American College. It was with great integrity and honesty Tony pursued a 40+ year career in the insurance world.
Tony's truest passion was the love of his life Mary (Mumford) of 53+ years. When Tony was 17, almost 18, he met Mary while they were both working at the Winn Dixie, he was bag boy and she was a checker. Together they raised two daughters, Stephine and Christina. Tony's true north in life was to ensure his family was loved, protected and cared for.
Tony enjoyed traveling with his family, taking them on epic cross country family road trips. Tony was an excellent amateur repairman; he could fix anything including skinned knees and Christmas Tree Lights. He served proudly in the United States Army, was a football referee, a better than average golfer. He was involved in many civic organizations including: The Louisville Businessmen's Breakfast Club (serving as President in 2005), Elks Lodge 2052, and THE BONNYCASTLE CLUB. Tony was a devout Catholic.
After Tony retired from Wells Fargo, he continued to work. From 2009 through 2017 Tony served on the KESA Board of Trustees as Chairman of the Board as well as Vice Chair and Secretary. In 2019 he joined the Board of Trustees for Clear Path Mutual serving as Secretary until early in 2021. Additionally, Tony served on the Education Committee and was a licensing instructor with the Association of Independent Insurance Agents of Kentucky, as well as an adjunct professor with Jefferson Community and Technical College.
Throughout Tony's life, he tackled each task and hurdle with humility, perseverance and integrity.
Left to cherish his memory are wife, Mary; daughters, Stephine and Christina; Steve Obst; sister, Regina Steltenpohl (Bob); Sister-in-laws, Jeannette Stottmann and Linda Stottmann; numerous nieces and nephews, and a host of friends. Tony was preceded in death by his parents, Evelyn and Bernard Stottmann; brothers, Charlie and Bernie Stottmann (Margie); and in-laws Mary and Perry Mumford.
Mary, his Girls, and Steve will miss him beyond measure. But, knowing that he is with God along with those who left this earth before him, have welcomed Tony Home with joy and happiness, provides his family great comfort.
It was with outstanding courage and grace that Tony fought his battle with cancer. Even though cancer may have taken him from this world, cancer did not win - it simply allowed the best Husband, Father, and Friend to move on up to Heaven becoming cancer free.
Visitation will be Monday, April 12 from 3:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Ratterman & Sons Funeral Home, 3800 Bardstown Road. A funeral Mass will be Tuesday at 10:00 am at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 3345 Lexington Road. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery.
Tony's family would like to thank the friends and family that sent cards, notes, food and well wishes providing support and love during this difficult time. A special thank you goes out to the students of New Song Christian Academy that filled Grumpy Dad's mailbox daily with joy.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a memorial gift to: Mass on the Air which is a blessing to so many who are unable to leave their homes;
St. Jude Children's Research Hospital an organization that Tony was a lifelong supporter; or the Louisville Zoo, a place Tony loved to visit.
