Ervis G. Coggin, 91, passed away on March 28, 2025, in San Angelo, Texas.
Born on November 1, 1933, in Agawam, Oklahoma Ervis was raised in Cross Plains, Texas, and later graduated from Texas Tech University. He met the love of his life Betty Anne Boyd Coggin in San Angelo and spent 58 years married to her before her passing. He greatly missed her each day after her passing.
He built a distinguished career as a petroleum engineer, setting records for deep wells in the Permian Basin and drilling across the globe-including Texas, the Gulf of America, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, Nigeria, Australia, Indonesia, Trinidad, and Scotland. In addition to his engineering work, Ervis was also a dedicated rancher, managing a herd of over 100 cattle in Axtell, Texas before retiring to San Angelo.
Ervis was deeply involved in his church family and faith through the Southgate Church of Christ. Known for his outgoing nature and love of sports-especially golf and football-he also found great joy in spending time with his family.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Betty Coggin; his parents CC Coggin and Nora Coggin; his brother CC Coggin Jr.; his sister Juanita Coggin and son Monte Coggin.
He is lovingly remembered by his son Michael Coggin and daughter-in-law Diana of Salado, Texas; his sister Ruth Coggin of Axtell, Texas; granddaughters Toni Coggin and Casey Coggin of Lubbock, Texas; granddaughter Brinn Serbanic and her husband Michael of China Spring, Texas; grandson Blake Newman and his wife Sunni of Johnson City, Texas; great-grandsons Braxton, Nolan, Logan, Noah, Dean, Jack, and Henry; and great-granddaughters Noelle, Evelyn, and Lily.
A visitation will be held on Friday, April 4, 2025, from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Shaffer Funeral Home, 1929 Sherwood Way, San Angelo, Texas 76901. Donations in lieu of flowers is requested to his favorite charity – San Angelo Christian Academy.
