Eston Eurel Melton Jr.

Eston Eurel Melton, Jr. died October 5th, 2025 at his home with family in Clayton, Georgia. Born in Avon Park, FL on May 5th, 1931, he was the son of the late Eston E. (Skeet) Melton and Genevieve J. (Icky) Melton.

Eston is survived by his wife of 44 years, Peggy Ann of the home, five sons, Eston Melton, Ill of West Palm Beach, FL, Robert Melton of St. Louis, MO, Will Melton of Annandale, VA, Dan Melton of Spartanburg, SC, and Thomas Melton. He is also survived by four stepdaughters, Wen Copeland of Clayton, GA, Christine Parks of Gainesville, GA, Lynda Ann Price of Clayton, GA, Tracey Lee Clayton of Savannah, GA, and one stepson, John Underwood of Highlands, NC, thirteen grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Eston served as an active-duty Captain in the US Army Artillery during the Korean War era. He held a Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Florida and Masters and Doctorate degrees in Education from the University of Georgia.

After a career of executive engineering in management in the aerospace industry, Eston moved to Rabun County in 1977 and began a second career of teaching on the faculty of North Georgia Technical College in Clarkesville, GA, retiring in 1996.

Eston was active in many local civic endeavors; Chairman of the Rabun County Music Festival Association, Chairman of the Rabun County Board of County Commissioners, Vice-Chair of the Rabun County Health Department, Vice-Chair of the Clayton-Rabun County Water and Sewer Authority, Vice-Chair of the Georgia Regional Development Commission, and President of Melton Associates, Inc. He was a member and past Senior Warden of St. James Episcopal Church in Clayton. Eston was an Eagle Scout.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to the Outreach Fund at St. James Episcopal Church in Clayton.

The family is deeply grateful to Amedisys for the grace, compassion, and care shown to Eston during his final weeks.

A memorial service will be held at St. James Episcopal Church Sunday October 19th at 3:00 PM.
