Omar Elliott, age 25, passed away unexpectedly on July 4, 2024
Born Estuardo Omar Pena-Morales in Puerto Barrios, Guatemala, Omar completed our family through adoption, in August 2005, at the age of six years old.
Growing up, Omar was always active, loved the outdoors, and loved spending time with his friends. He was active in the Scouting program, played soccer and baseball, and loved to fish. Omar loved animals and for years maintained a large salt water tank of tropical fish and coral, a hobby that would lead him to a career interest.
Omar graduated from Rush Henrietta in 2018 and soon after graduation moved to Key West, Florida to attend College of the Florida Keys. While in school, he became a Certified Scuba Diver, Dive Instructor, and Recue Diver. He was afforded the opportunity to complete two paid and one volunteer internships for MOTE Marine Laboratory and Aquarium at Florida Keys Research Campuses, conducting coral research. Omar earned his Associates Degree in Marine Science.
Omar's love of the ocean grew as he lived the Key West life – he led dive charters, took up spear fishing, learned to free dive for lobster, and enjoyed many sunsets from Sunset Pier. He enjoyed the island life and said he felt like one of the locals. While in Key West, Omar became an avid body builder, a passion that continue when he returned home pursuing his next goal of becoming an airline pilot like his Uncle Dave. He worked part-time at Tomkins Community Bank while attending Liberty University and taking flying lessons. His free time was spent at the gym, taking walks with his dog Maui, and spending time with friends.
Omar is survived by his parents Brett and Kathy, sister Brianna, Maternal Grandmother Gretchen Greene, Aunts/Uncles David Hakes, Todd and Maria Elliott, Tracee and Bill David, Cousins Nikiah and Taiya Hakes, Thomas and Mary Elliott, Tyler and Abbey David, Godmother Sherry Kurtz, Lifelong friend Justice Hooker and many other cherished family and friends, both here and in Key West.
Omar is predeceased by his Godfather David Anderson and Aunt Athena Kalandros-Hakes and leaves behind his beloved dog Maui.
There will be a Casual Celebration of Life Open House for Omar on Thursday July 11, 2024, from 3:00 – 6:00 PM at the Rochester Elks Lodge #24, 3525 East Henrietta Rd. Henrietta NY 14467.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made in Omar's name to MOTE Marine Laboratory and Aquarium [mote.org] or the charity of your choice.

My sincerest condolences to your family. I was Omar´s mentor at Mote turned personal friend. Throughout our time he was a genuinely nice person and it makes me sad to hear this news. Only even a month ago Omar and I shared words and caught up on his life and his personal successes. Our last exchange was only that of the best and he will be missed. So sorry for your loss.

My thoughts and prayers are with you guys. Omar was such a great person and was so very genuine. I was in Omar´s Dive Instructor course at the College of the Florida Keys. We used to go to the dog park together with Maui and my dog, Fish. I know Maui is missing his dad dearly.... Omar will be missed greatly.

Omar was a part of my instructor graduating class. I will always remember his jokes and making us each laugh in the most stressful parts. I am so sorry for this loss to your family and will do my part to keep his love for the ocean alive, always.
