Ethel Alter

Ethel Alter passed away at her home February 17, 2026. She was born in 1924 in Chelsea, Massachusetts to immigrants from Odessa. She raised her family of four children in Belmont, Massachusetts and became a full-time resident of Longboat Key, Florida in 2007.

Ethel was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. Early on she demonstrated creative talents for painting in oils, working with clay, and decorating. She maintained a beautiful garden at her home in Belmont which created a lovely backdrop for one of her daughters' weddings. Ethel travelled to Europe many times as her husband was CFO of an international company. She was an excellent cook who entertained many of the company's executives from England, Germany, India and Ireland.

Ethel was predeceased by her devoted husband of seventy years, Maximilian Alter, and two beloved daughters, Joanne Sackman and Arleen Hardie. She is survived by two children, seven grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren, along with a legacy of warmth, creativity, and love that will endure for generations to come.
