Eugene "Hammer" Baker

Eugene "Hammer" Baker, of London, Kentucky, passed away peacefully on March 10th 2026. He was born on April 14, 1949 to the late Roscoe and Marie Baker.

Eugene was the devoted husband of Evelyn Baker, and together they built a life centered around love, family, and hard work. He was a proud father to three strong sons: Clifford Baker (Vicky), Johnny Baker (Donna), and Phillip Baker (Jamie).

Known best to many as Papaw, Eugene cherished every moment spent with his grandchildren: Timothy, Joshua, LaTasha, Dylan, Hannah and Zachary along with a host of 25 great-grandchildren who brought him immense joy and pride. He is also survived by four siblings, Johnny Baker & wife Terry of Manchester, KY, Rick Baker & wife Angie of Manchester, KY, Bonnie Newsome of Manchester, KY, Linda Riley & husband Richard of Lexington, KY.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Brenda Sue Davidson; and by his granddaughter, Kimberly Faye Clark.

Eugene spent many years working as a coal miner, a job he loved and one that reflected his strength, dedication, and work ethic. Those who knew him will remember a man who provided for his family with pride and carried himself with quiet strength and kindness.

Above all else, Eugene was a loving husband, a devoted father, a proud papaw, and a loyal friend. He lived a full life surrounded by those he loved, leaving behind memories that will be cherished forever.

Though he is no longer with us, his legacy of love, strength, and family will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.

A funeral service honoring Eugene "Hammer" Baker will be held on Saturday, March 14, 2026 at 3:00 p.m. in the chapel of House-Rawlings Funeral Home with Johnny Ray Benge officiating. Interment will follow at Baker Cemetery in Manchester, Kentucky. The family will receive friends on Friday, March 13, 2026 beginning at 6:00 p.m. also at the funeral home. The family has entrusted House-Rawlings Funeral Home with the arrangements.
