Eugene "Gene" Jack Buchanan, age 95, of Jasper, Georgia, formerly of Marietta, Georgia, passed away Friday, May 16, 2025 at WellStar Tranquility Hospice at Kennesaw Mountain in Marietta, Georgia. He was born on September 18, 1929 to Herman and Grace Crowe Buchanan in Marble Hill, Georgia.
Gene graduated from Tate High School and enjoyed attending class reunions - he was the last known surviving graduate of his class. He was a proud veteran and served in the United States Army as a tank commander during the Korean War. His working years included Georgia Marble Company where he worked on headstones placed at Arlington National Cemetery, Lockheed, Business Supplies Corporation, International Paper Company, and, Simkins Industries all located in Marietta, and former Paramour's Antiques in Marietta and also the Woodstock Library. Gene was an avid collector of antiques, coins, guns, knives, and military memorabilia. He also enjoyed fishing, gardening, hunting, watching car races, and was quite the foodie! He was a member of Noonday Baptist Church in Marietta and a member of the Disabled American Veterans in Jasper. Gene always had interesting facts and stories to share which will be missed.
Survivors include daughter, Valerie Buchanan Coleman of Canton; daughter, Vanessa Buchanan of Jasper; granddaughter, Olivia Coleman Parrish (Scott) of Buford; grandson, Preston Coleman of Atlanta; grandson, Austin Duckett of Jasper; great-grandsons, Camden Smith and Beckett Smith; great-granddaughter, Lily Kate Smith of Buford; great-granddaughter, Indie Coleman of Atlanta; brother-in-law, Will Denson of Jasper; sister-in-law, Ruth Ingram of Nelson; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Genneal Ingram Buchanan; parents, Herman and Grace Buchanan; young brother, Esmond Buchanan; brother, Hallman Buchanan; and sisters, Guanita Ray, Myrna Denson, and Janie Carver.
A memorial service will be held Tuesday, May 20, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel of Roper Funeral Home in Jasper with Reverend and dear friend, Dave Mahaffey, officiating and music provided by Jessie Gray (jessiegraymusic.com). Tim Ingram will open the service with a prayer. Interment will follow at Georgia National Cemetery in Canton.
The family will receive friends Tuesday, May 20, 2025 from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at Roper Funeral Home in Jasper.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Gene's memory to the Disabled American Veterans - DAV Chapter 47; PO Box 56 Jasper, GA 30143
Friends and family are invited to join in wearing any patriotic attire in Gene's honor if you would like to for his funeral service.
