Eugene Melvin Hollembeak

ROCKFORD – Eugene Melvin Hollembeak, age 89, of Rockford passed away peacefully at home Tuesday May 7, 2024. Born in Belvidere on June 6, 1934 to Lawrence & Evelyn Hollembeak (Dummer). A devoted Christian, Gene loved God, family and preaching the gospel; he hated the devil & liquor. He proudly worked for over 24 years at the Rockford Rescue Mission. A jack of all trades, Gene could fix anything in disrepair and in his spare time enjoyed Westerns & Steam Tractor Shows. Beloved husband, father, grandfather and dear friend, he will remain forever in our hearts.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 65 years, Elizabeth Faye Hollembeak (Rice); children, Nina (Jeff) Richardson, Brett (Jami) Hollembeak and Curtis (Cathy) Hollembeak; grandchildren, Thad (Melissa), Sarah (Taylor), Evelyn (Kyle), Esther, Benjamin, Max, Caleb, Joseph and Hannah (Brandon); 6 great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Karen Hollembeak; as well as numerous nieces & nephews; and many dear friends. He is predeceased by his son, Lawrence "Lee" Leroy Hollembeak; brothers, Leroy & Roger Hollembeak; and his parents.
Funeral Services held Friday May 10, 2024 at 6:00 pm at Berean Baptist Church, 5626 Safford Road, Rockford with visitation from 5:00 pm until the time of service at 6:oo pm. Graveside Service held Saturday May 11, 2024 at 10:00 am at Highland Garden of Memories, Belvidere. Memorials to the family.
