In Loving Memory of Eugene Walét Hymel, Jr.
Eugene "Gene" Walét Hymel Jr., a devoted husband, father, father-in-law, grandfather, and great grandfather passed away on July 2, 2025, at the age of 84. A friend to many, he leaves behind a legacy of warmth, wit, and unwavering kindness.
An LSU graduate with a Bachelor of Business Administration, Gene was a proud Tiger and an even prouder Saints fan. He had an adventurous spirit and a deep love for travel-especially to Maine for fresh lobster, the vineyards of France, and the historic corners of Europe. He particularly loved traveling with his wife, Patricia, sharing countless memories and discoveries together. A lifelong learner and history enthusiast, he had a particular fascination with World War II.
He was passionate about golf, tennis, and sailing, and spent countless joyful hours engaged in the activities he loved. Gene was also a private pilot who found freedom in the skies. Deeply patriotic, he loved his country with quiet strength and dignity. A man of faith and service, Gene was proud to serve as a Grand Knight in the Knights of Columbus, dedicating his time to charitable works and community leadership.
One of his most cherished memories was traveling to Philmont Scout Ranch with his son, Paul as part of Paul's journey to Eagle Scout-an experience that reflected his deep commitment to family, mentorship, and adventure.
Whether he was enjoying a good book, cooking for family, or spending time outdoors, Gene brought thoughtfulness and warmth to every moment. His beloved dogs-Annie, Luke, and Cookie-were constant companions and cherished members of his life.
He was known for his infectious smile, impeccable style, and the grace of a true gentleman. Above all, Gene loved and was deeply loved by his family. He lived his life with purpose, humility, and generosity-a man of character who touched countless lives.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Eugene Walét Hymel and Rosemary Dupuis Hymel. He is survived by his loving wife, Patricia Lyon Hymel of
