Eugene R. “Butch” Jones, age 71, of Louisville, Ohio, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 29, 2025, at Aultman Compassionate Care Center. Born on July 27, 1954, in Victorville, California, he was the son of the late Eugene W. and Margaret E. (Whitemeyer) Jones.
Butch grew up in the Louisville area and graduated from St. Thomas Aquinas High School, where he was a standout football player. His athletic talent led him to Bowling Green State University, where he lettered in football in 1976, and ultimately to being drafted by the NFL. Unfortunately, an injury ended his professional football aspirations before he had the chance to play in a game.
Following that setback, Butch found a new path as a skilled bricklayer, a trade he took great pride in until his retirement. He was a dedicated and faithful member of Bricklayers Local 6 in Canton, regularly attending meetings and supporting his fellow tradesmen.
A longtime member of the Louisville YMCA for more than 20 years, Butch lived an active life. He enjoyed swimming, outdoors, and gardening, and had a deep love and compassion for his animals.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Roger Jones.
Those left to cherish his memory include his devoted life partner and best friend of 35 years, Sharon Huston, along with her children and grandchildren, whom he loved and cared for as his own — Matthew (Jennifer) Kisela, Tracy Stephens, Magen (Brian) DePalmo, and Tiffany Rinhart. He is also survived by four nieces, one nephew, several cousins, and his dear friend Bob Paitt, whom he considered part of his extended family.
In accordance with Butch’s wishes, friends and family may call on Tuesday, November 4, 2025, from 6:00–8:00 p.m. at Sanders Funeral Home. There will be no formal funeral service, and a private cremation will take place.
