Dr. Simko was my Strategic Managment Professor for the Fall of 2016. Hands down, he was one of the best professors at Monmouth University. My heart sank today when I learned of his passing via email from MU. My deepest condolences to his family (always spoke highly of his kids) and friends. He was such a great man, and I know he is and will be missed tremendously.

Gene was my Strategic Management teacher at Monmouth University. You could always see how passionate he was about his job and really worked to get his students the education they needed. Gene was very nice and a great person to talk to. He will be missed.

I was blessed to have Gene as a boyhood friend. He and I had the shared passion for military 'mini-models' and we would regularly head to Marsh's Hobby Shop and look for the latest piece to add to our respective collections of tanks, artillery pieces, and other vehicles. We would then review our 'divisions' on Gene's front porch across from what was then the Boy's Club on the triangular block bordered by Beatty, Malone and Home avenue.
We lost track of each other as most people do after life envelopes them. Speaking of life, Gene led a v-e-r-y full life and my 'accomplishments' pale in comparison to his legacy.
When I grow up I want to be just like Gene.
The world is an emptier place now.
He and his family have been in my daily prayers since I learned of his untimely passing.
May he rest in peace.

John,
Very sorry to hear of Gene's passing. I hadn't met him but grew to know him through his photos of Sturgey, White City Lake and all the scenes from our old neighborhood. I believe he posted the only known picture of the wire bridge behind the Duck Island Power plant. He had a model of ESSEX in his office, IIRC.
And there were his on-line Italian cooking lessons. Sounds as though he was a true character.
With deepest condolences,
-Bill (from Trenton and from the ESSEX)

Gene will be so missed. I looked forward to running into him on campus. He had so much energy and enthusiasm for what he did and for Monmouth University. My heart goes out to his family and our whole Monmouth community. When I think about Gene I always smile. He made people laugh.

Professor Simko was undoubtedly the best teacher I had in college. He taught the senior business course of "Business Policy" and it has served me well throughout my career. The year I graduated he was also honored as the best professor at Monmouth.
Great man who truly loved what he did.
Regards,
