Obituary of Eunice Emily Tacheny
Eunice Emily Tacheny (Cihak)
Oct. 8, 1932 – July 7, 2024
Born October 8, 1932 to Emil J. Cihak and Anna M. Gephart of Lakeville, MN. She was raised on the family farm near New Market, MN with her 3 siblings. Eunice was proud to be a "Farm Girl" her entire life.
Upon graduation from Lakeville High School in 1950, she accepted a job at the Catholic Digest Magazine in St. Paul, MN. She met, and later married, Lawrence G. Tacheny on June 21, 1952 at All Saints Catholic Church in Lakeville, MN. They made their home on St. Paul's eastside and raised 6 children.
With a large family to fee; the Farm Girl tended a garden planed every spring with tomatoes, beans, peas, carrots and corn. As the family grew and dispensed, the garden transformed into flowers and the ever present rhubarb. Eunice enjoyed many hours of garden and yard work her true joy outdoors.
Meanwhile, she returned to work in downtown St. Paul at the 1 Bank. Taking the city bus to and from work for many years until retirement. Retiring is not what Farm Girls do however. The garden and flower bed got better than ever of course, but there was spare time. Eunice decided to volunteer at the Life Care Center East. No need to take the bus when she could walk the 6 blocks to and from the facility that provides pregnancy counseling, testing and material support to mothers and families. She did this for years, until she couldn't walk that far anymore. Then co-workers and neighbors would give her rides back and forth when needed.
Eunice was also a lifetime member of the Lakeville VFW Auxiliary #210; the same post that her father, Emil Cihak, a WWI Army Veteran, belonged.
Eunice was preceded in death by her husband Lawrence, son Joseph, and her siblings Audrey Mechtel, Verna Thomas, LeRoy Cihak and her parents. She is survived by her children, Mark Tacheny, Catherine Wright, Victoria Lewis, Paul Tacheny and Carol Garrett along with many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Eunice's' family would like to thank all he friends form the neighborhood she resided for over 60 years, Blessed Sacrament Church, The Life Care Center for the friendship, help and love over those years. Also thank you to all her caregivers at the Good Samaritan in north Stillwater, MN where she spent her last years. She will miss you all.
Services will be held at Blessed Sacrament Church, 2119 Stillwater Ave E, St Paul, MN 55119 on Wednesday, July 17, 2024, visitation at 9:30AM with service at 10:30AM, followed by interment at Minnehaha Cemetery followed by a luncheon back at the church.

Always lovely, always elegant and always ready with a snack. The 3 always things I remember about Eunice whenever visiting her home.
Another always is she was always recounting stories of her youth that revolved around the love she had for her family which to me was what defined her the most.
Her fierce love of family , now with many of whom she is no doubt reliving some of those stories.
Rest in Peace elegant, lovely Eunice.
