Born on January 20, 1938, alongside her twin sister, Loyce, in a two-room log cabin in Hohenwald, Tennessee, Evelyn was the daughter of the late Escar Tharp and the late Lockey Turnbow Tharp. She attended Indian Creek Elementary, Gordonsburg School, and Lewis County High School.
Evelyn began her working career at H.I.S. and later joined Horace Small Manufacturing in Mt. Pleasant, where she remained until her retirement. In 1963, she married Joe Curtis, who preceded her in death in 2005.
A devoted member of The Pentecostals of Columbia, where her brother, Bishop Tharp pastored for approximately forty years, Evelyn lived her faith daily through her generosity and compassion. She found joy in cooking, helping her neighbors, and giving selflessly to anyone in need. Those who knew her will remember her kind heart and giving spirit.
She is survived by her sisters in law, Doris Tharp, Sharon Tharp, Jonnie Tharp, and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her step mother, Maude Tharp, and siblings, James Tharp, Billy Tharp, Telford Tharp, Betty Sue Ellzey, and Loyce Barber.
Those serving all pallbearers will be Billy Wayne Tharp, Philip Tharp, Jayme Tharp, Michael Tharp, Barry Conner, Ricky Conner, and Wayne Reed. Honorary pallbearers will include her friends and family at The Pentecostals of Columbia.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to the staff of Poplar Estates and NHC Columbia for their compassionate care, and to Rhonda Parker, Marsha Kinzer, Donna Witherow, and Shane and Terris Rhoades for their kindness, visits, and loving support.
