NORTH ATTLEBORO – Everett "Mac" McConnell, 102, of North Attleboro passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 7, 2018 at home surrounded by his devoted family. He was the husband of the late Dorothy "Dolly" (Pidgeon) McConnell for 63 years until her death in 2011.
Born on January 17, 1916, he was the son of the late Joseph and Elizabeth (Price) McConnell.
Everett grew up in Attleboro and was a 1934 graduate of Attleboro High School. He lived in Norfolk for several years before moving to North Attleboro in 1951.
Everett served in the Civilian Conservation Corps as a young man and was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corps, serving in World War II. After the war, he attended watchmaking school in Boston under the G.I. Bill. Before the war he worked several years at Leach and Garner and after the war worked 30 years at the Foxboro Company before retiring in 1980.
He was a longtime active member at Grace Episcopal Church in North Attleboro where he served on the vestry and was the property chair for many years and taught Sunday school. He also served the soup kitchen at Grace Church and later was a member of Central Congregational Church in Attleboro Falls.
Everett loved working outside in his yard, on his house, doing crossword puzzles and watching sports, especially the Red Sox. He also enjoyed square dancing when he was younger.
He is survived by two children and their spouses: Ellen Pond and husband Ronald of North Attleboro and David McConnell and wife Michelle of North Attleboro; Also, survived by his daughter-in-law Bimbi McConnell;
He was the loving grandfather to 9 Grandchildren: Nicole & husband Phil McCally; Danielle & wife Bridget Sheehan-Pond; Shane McConnell, Kevin & wife Sue McConnell; Joseph McConnell, Kari Lee McConnell, Colleen & husband Jay Hedtler; Matthew & wife Stacy McConnell; Andrea & husband Chris Faticanti;
And proud great-grandfather to 16 Great-Grandchildren: Abigale & Andrew McCally; Alexis & Brittany Busey; Kayla, Julia & Leah Hedtler; Teagan & Gavin McConnell; Alexandra, John & Elizabeth McConnell; Preston & Lily Faticanti and Owen & Everly Sheehan-Pond.
Everett enjoyed his weekly dinners & chats with his best friend Al Sharp.
And also enjoyed the company of his good friend and caretaker Gigi Randell.
Everett was the loving father of the late E. Joseph McConnell. And was predeceased by 5 siblings.
Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend visitation on Saturday, June 30th from 12-1pm and Service with Military Honors at 1pm in the Sperry & McHoul Funeral Home, 15 Grove Street, North Attleborough, MA.
