Felix Ramirez Gonzalez
February 20, 1934 - March 17, 2025
Felix Ramirez Gonzalez, aged 91, peacefully passed away on March 17, 2025, at his home, surrounded by the love of his family. Born on February 20, 1934, in Distrito Federal, Mexico, Felix lived a life filled with hard work, determination, love, and devotion to both his family and his community. His remarkable journey from humble beginnings to becoming a pillar of his family and a respected figure in San Antonio is a testament to his resilience, character, and the values he held Dearly.
Felix met the love of his life, Josefina, in Monterrey, Nuevo León, Mexico. The two were married in 1956, embarking on a beautiful journey of love, faith, and partnership. Together, they built a family that grew to include six children, eleven grandchildren, and thirteen great-grandchildren, all of whom carry forward his legacy. Felix and Josefina's enduring love was a model of devotion, and they shared a profound bond for 69 years.
Felix's journey to the United States in pursuit of a better life for his family was not an easy one, but it was one he faced with unwavering strength and determination. As the first in his generation to immigrate to San Antonio, Felix faced numerous challenges-particularly in learning English-but through his hard work and perseverance, he prevailed over these obstacles and became a proud U.S. citizen in 1977. His story of self-learning and adaptation is a powerful reminder of the strength of the human spirit and the ability to bridge cultural and linguistic gaps through dedication.
Felix's contributions to his adopted community were profound. As a skilled welder by trade, he played an integral role in the creation of significant local landmarks, including his work on the Veterans' Monument at Kelly Air Force Base, where his craftsmanship can still be seen in the stainless steel flag that proudly waves, representing his dedication to both his country and the values it stands for. Felix also lent his expertise to the Hemisphere Tower, assisting in the assembly of its roof, a landmark that remains a symbol of San Antonio's growth and history.
A devout Catholic, Felix was a devoted member of the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Little Flower for many years. He served as an usher for over 40 years, faithfully carrying out his duties and exemplifying the values of faith, service, and community that were at the core of his beliefs. His deep devotion to God and his church community was a cornerstone of his life, and he will be remembered as a man whose faith never wavered.
Beyond his work and faith, Felix had a love for learning and an adventurous spirit. He was always eager to explore new ideas and experiences, and his sense of humor and zest for life were infectious. He had an unparalleled ability to make those around him feel valued and cherished, leaving behind countless memories of laughter, love, and shared experiences.
Felix was preceded in death by his parents, Maria Ramirez and Bartolo Gonzalez, as well as his beloved son, Jose Ramón Gonzalez. He is survived by his cherished wife, Josefina, his children, Manuel Gonzalez (Margarita), Francisco Gonzalez (Yolanda), Carmen Williams, Lourdes Herrera (Carlos), and Felix Gonzalez Jr. (Unidad); his eleven grandchildren: Francisco Gonzalez Jr., Joe Anthony Gonzalez (Dani), Antonio Gonzalez (Maribel), Rosanita Gonzalez (Alfonso), Eric Gonzalez, Teresa Gonzalez, Christine Narro, Zane Narro (Jennifer), Gabriela Gonzalez (Willie), Felix Gonzalez III, and Christian Williams; and his thirteen great-grandchildren: Amoretta, Ari, Claire, Oliver, Isabella, Aviera, James, Aztlaneci, Emmy, Temixcalli, Felix IV, Ezra, and Kiauhcozcayo.
Felix leaves behind an enduring legacy of love, faith, strength, and commitment to his family and community. His memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew him, and he will forever be missed by his loved ones.
