Florence L Merz

Florence Louise Merz was born in Brooklyn, N.Y. on December 13, 1932, to John and Julia McVarish. She was one of three daughters. She was a graduate of St. Agnes Seminary. She worked initially as a telephone operator, and after having her children, became a dental assistant and x-ray technician.
She married her childhood sweetheart, Joseph George Merz III, on January 26, 1952, and was happily married for 72 years. She raised three daughters, Florence Chamberland, Rosemary Cortese, and Moira Jean Healey (Ken), and was blessed with six grandchildren, Nichole Horan (George), Dana Garcia (Cesar), David Chamberland (Chelsea), Stephen Chamberland, John Cortese (Margaret), and Danielle Coluccio, and twelve great-grandchildren, Vivienne, Luca, Olivia, Harrison, Colin, Reid, Savannah, Vivian, Quinton, Alexandria, Penny, and Sebastian.
She was a devoted Catholic and rarely missed weekly Mass. She enjoyed spending time with her family and close friends, traveling with her husband, fine dining, reading, and playing Pinocle and Mahjong. She was a giving person, always offering a hand in need to her family, friends, and charities. Besides the love for her Joe and three girls, she loved her animals. She always had a dog and a cat and thrived on taking care of them. She will be deeply missed.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Friday December 27, 2024, at St. Mary's Church 45 Crosswicks St. Bordentown NJ 08505. Calling hours will be held Thursday evening 6:00 ~ 8:00 pm and Friday morning from 9:30 ~ 10:15 am at the funeral home, burial will follow at St. Charles / Resurrection Cemeteries 2015 Wellwood Ave, Farmingdale, NY 11735.
