Joseph George Merz

Joseph George Merz III was born in Brooklyn, NY on April 4, 1933 to Joseph Jr. and Agnes (Trunz) Merz. He was a graduate of St. Augustine High School, City College of New York and Brown University Banking School in Providence Rhode Island.
He had a successful banking career, retiring from Trenton Savings Fund Society in 1996, from the position of Executive Vice President. He married his childhood sweetheart, Florence Louise McVarish, January 26, 1952. He raised three daughters, Florence Chamberland, Rosemary Cortese, Moira Jean Healey, and was blessed with six grandchildren, Nichole, Dana, David, Stephen, John and Danielle, and twelve great-grandchildren.
His unwavering devotion to his faith led him to become a Past President of the Holy name Society and the St Rose of Lima in Massapequa NY. He was also a Past Grand Knight of council #7845 and Past Faithful Navigator and Color Corp member of Assembly #2264. He is a current brother of the Bordentown Knights of Columbus council #570 and Bishop George W. Ahr 3087. As a proud parishioner of Mary Mother of the Church Parish, Joseph was a Eucharist Minister.
He was an avid musician with a passion for playing the piano. Joe's retirement days were filled improving his handicap in golf, traveling and fine dining with his wife, visits with his grandchildren and his involvement with his church.
He was a devoted husband, loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather and he will be missed by all.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Monday July 8, 2024 at St. Mary's Church 45 Crosswicks St. Bordentown NJ 08505. Calling hours will be held Sunday evening 5:00 ~ 7:00 pm with Knights of Columbus service at 6:30 pm and Monday morning from 9:30 ~ 10:15 am at the funeral home, burial will follow at St. Charles / Resurrection Cemeteries 2015 Wellwood Ave, Farmingdale, NY 11735.
