Frances King passed away May 8, 2025. Frances was born on July 5,1924 in Louisville, Kentucky to Mary Norton and Joseph Lawton. She graduated from Atherton High School for Girls. As a teenager she loved summer camp at Camp Merrie-Wood. She graduated from the University of Kentucky where she was a member of the Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority. After WWII she married Harry Robertson King Jr., and they had two sons, Harry Robertson King III "Rob" and Joseph Lawton King. She loved to travel in Europe, particularly to visit art museums. Her love of art led her to volunteer as a docent at the Speed Art Museum for many years. She enjoyed gardening, playing tennis, watching U.K. basketball, and playing bridge. She loved books, and read the Wall Street, New York Times, and Courier Journal every day. Harry, her husband for over 50 years, proceeded her in death as did her sister, Helen Mitchell. Frances is survived by her sons Rob (Laura), and Joe along with grandchildren Lawton King (Janet), Clark King (Jordan), Taylor King (Maggie), Alex King, and Elizabeth Zeitz (Nick). Great grandchildren include Chance King, Hilly King, Virginia Zeitz, Henry Zeitz and Lily King. She is also survived by her nephew Stuart Mitchell (Debbie) and great nephew Bow Mitchell. A special thanks for the wonderful care provided by the staff at the Episcopal Church Home, and personal care givers Peggy, Cindy, and Linda, and the Baptist Hospital doctors, nurses, and aides. Memorial service held at 11am on Saturday, May 17, 2025 in the chapel at the Episcopal Church Home, 7504 Westport Rd. Gifts in her memory may be made to The Episcopal Church Home or The Home of The Innocents,1100 Market Street, Louisville, KY 40206 Arrangements under the direction of Pearson's, "Where Louisville Goes to Remember" To send flowers to the family or plant a tree in memory of Frances (Franny), please visit our floral store.
