Frances Linkesh Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by McIlvaine-Speakman Funeral Home Ltd. on Jan. 26, 2026.
Frances (Fran) Knepper Linkesh, 82, of Mt. Lebanon, formerly of Avella, passed away on January 2, 2026, following an accident. She was born in Oklahoma City, OK, but lived the majority of her life in Pennsylvania. She was the daughter of the late, Elwood and Frances Johnson Knepper. She was preceded in death by her husband; Francis (Frank) Linkesh, her brother, E. Christopher Knepper (Joyce), and her cousin, Betsey Bernard.

Fran was a graduate of Crafton High School, California University of Pennsylvania; where she was a member of Kappa Delta Pi, an American Honorary Society for Educators and Alpha Xi Delta. She continued her education at West Virginia University, where she received her Masters Degree. Fran began her teaching career as an English teacher at Fort Cherry High School, McDonald and later as their Reading Specialist at The Elementary Center. She helped many students improve their reading skills, allowing them to function better academically, and throughout their lives. She retired in 1995 after 30 years of teaching.

Fran led a life of service to many. She was a longtime member of Lower Buffalo Presbyterian Church, Avella. where she served as an Elder. Throughout her years there, she taught Sunday School, sponsored a youth group and often put her Musical Talent to use, playing the piano.

After moving to Asbury Heights in Mt. Lebanon, she served as a Carriage Home Representative, was a member of the Library Committee, Trip Committee and Visiting Angels. Fran was currently attending Church Services at Hickman Chapel.

Fran enjoyed playing the piano, gardening, swimming, traveling , reading and entertaining. She was also an avid Pittsburgh Penguins and Pittsburgh Steeler Fan, rarely missing a game. Baking was another talent of hers, especially at Christmas, when she would lovingly bake Gingerbread Men for Family and Friends, who always looked forward to this Special Holiday Tradition.

Fran is survived by her Cousin Mary Jane(Janie) (Jack) Bellay of Columbus, Ohio, and their children Jeremy Bellay and his children, Winston and Helen, Jennifer Warmenunde (Josh) and their children Blake and William, and niece, Elicia (Frank) Bernard. She also leaves behind many dear friends and her beloved Cat, JoJo.

Fran will be lovingly remembered by her Family and Friends, as a kind caring, woman always willing to help others. As per Fran's wishes, there will be no visitation. A private Memorial Service will be held at a later date.

Memorial Donations may be made to: Lower Buffalo Presbyterian Church, 335 Campground Road, Avella, PA 15312

I will always be grateful to have had Mrs. Linkesh as my homeroom teacher and reading teacher as my introduction to Fort Cherry in my seventh and eighth grade years. She will never be forgotten and always be remembered with great affection. .....Roxanne from the FC Class of '73
