Frances McCarty Obituary
Obituary published on Legacy.com by Snyder Funeral Homes, DeVore Chapel on Aug. 19, 2024.
Frances Irene McCarty, 86, of Delaware, Ohio passed away peacefully at home Saturday,
August 17, 2024 surrounded by her loving family. Frances was born on February 5, 1938, in a
small coal camp of Surosa, West Virginia to her parents George and Bernadine (Parsley) Etter.
Her family moved to Columbus, Ohio in 1952. She went on to meet Ronald McCarty at a local
church and the two were wed on January 31, 1959. Frances made a 27-year career as a local
lunch lady and kitchen employee, happily serving the many children who attended Gahanna
City Schools.
Frances leaves behind, to cherish her memory, her daughter Tammy Allison of Delaware, Ohio;
grandchildren Rebecca (Nathan) Blankenship of Ashley, Ohio and Glen (Chelsie) Allison of
Westerville, Ohio; brother Josh (Sandy) Etter of Tennessee; sister Carol (Larry Clipner) Etter of
Westerville, Ohio; great grandchildren Lilly, Noah, Riley, Sawyer, and Glenny, and multiple
nieces and nephews. She now joins her loving husband Ronald McCarty in the peaceful and
eternal beyond in heaven along with her parents George and Bernadine Etter; brothers Jesse
and Michael Etter; and her sister Mary Shoemaker.
Frances was, as Christ would say, meek: She was every bit as tough as she was sweet and
compassionate. Frances never wavered in her faith, or her love for God and her church. She led
a long and fruitful life filled with the joy and guiding light of a faithful soul. She loved to sing
gospel hymns and was singing more often than not. Growing up, her family performed together
as The Etter Family. Even though she was shy and reserved, Frances was well known for her
rendition of "I'm Willing, Lord." She loved to read her bible, and to cook for family, friends, or
anyone in need of a meal, and had a profound effect on all those who knew her. Like a true
Baptist, she only ever had a kind word to say about anyone. She was sure, gentle, and wise.
She was the one you would go to when in need of someone to help guide you through the
wilderness of whatever hardship you were facing. She loved her family, especially her
grandkids. All her life, when she was able, she babysat and helped with other people's children.
She often received feedback years down the line as to how important she was to them in those
tender and wondrous years. She devoted her life to the service of others, particularly to the
hungry bellies and minds of children, whom she loved so much. She was famous within her
community for her home made dumplings and fresh apple pies. Nobody will be able to fill her
shoes, but the lessons and memories she has left behind will be cherished and passed on for
generations to come. No one could be more deserving of a place in heaven than our beloved
Frances. She will be missed dearly.
Please join family and friends to celebrate Frances life and share precious memories with each
other.
