Francesco Raffa, 89, of Marlton, NJ, formerly of Glassboro, went to the Lord peacefully on March 4, 2025. Born on June 26, 1935, in Merì, Sicily, Italy, Francesco's journey was one marked by his incredible craftsmanship and boundless love for his family and all his extended family and friends who lovingly knew him as Frank, Cecino, or Pop Pop.
Francesco's life was a testament to the strength of the human spirit and the bonds of family. A child during World War II, he endured harrowing destruction and the painful separation of his father, a POW in Africa, who Cecino did not meet until 12 and a half years old. As a young man, he would go on to start a new life in America and compile a lifetime of vivid accounts that he would later share with his family and grandchildren.
He was the beloved husband of 63 years to Rosa Raffa, with whom he shared a lifetime of fun memories and adventures. Childhood sweethearts in Merì, they would go on to build a life together in America, raising two loving children, Bartolo and Cosima, married to Joseph. Pop Pop's heart was truly full when spending time with his four grandsons, Michael and his wife Nicole, Mark and his fiancé Elizabeth, Matthew, and Marcelo. He was predeceased by his beloved brothers John and Angelo, and his sister Francesca.
A master cabinet maker by trade, Francesco was the epitome of integrity and work ethic. His artistic touch was evident in every piece of detailed woodwork he crafted. He was revered for his skilled craftmanship, and his ever kind sharing of his talents for the blessing of others. He loved teaching his skillset, especially to his grandsons. His honesty and diligence were the cornerstones of his professional life, earning him respect and admiration from all who had the privilege of knowing him. Frank had a great talent for music. A wonderful dancer, he showed profound creative spirit as a singer and songwriter. He often would suddenly belt out an Italian song, whether at a doctor's office, Rosa's nursing home, or at dinner, wherever, much to the joy of his adoring fans. He loved music and cherished the trips he took with Rosa, full of shows, song and dancing. He also loved Elvis, Lawrence Welk, USA women's soccer, and Bruce Lee.
But he loved most the Lord, who he called his "boss."
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held privately for the family. In lieu of flowers, feel free to donate in his memory to Saint Joan of Arc School, 101 Evans Rd., Marlton, NJ 08053.
