Francis Edward Buckley, 85, of Wooster and formerly of Youngstown, passed away peacefully at Wooster Community Hospital on Saturday, October 4, 2025 after a sudden illness.

Francis was born February 21, 1940, to the late Francis and Josephine (Tobin) Buckley and graduated from Ursuline High School where he was on the football team. He served in the U.S. Army from August 11, 1963 to August 10, 1965 having served during Vietnam as part of the Alaskan Defense. On November 16, 1968 he married Mary Stiver and Mary preceded him in death on July 7, 2020. Francis was a firefighter having served on the Boardman Fire Department for over 35 years he had also been a State Fire Inspector and instructor. He was a founding member of the Mahoning County Hazmat Team and was also a part of the Gold Cross Ambulance Service. Francis was a member of the St. Columbia Cathedral in Youngstown. After moving to Wooster in 2014 he joined the 555th Honors Detachment and proudly helped provide military funeral rites to honor the men and women that served our country.

Surviving are his children Patrick (Stephanie) Buckley of Wooster, Bridget (Michael) Rhamy of Apple Creek and Michael Buckley of Wooster, and three grandchildren, Kaden and Kellen Buckley and Abigail Rhamy.

He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, and his brother and sister-in-law Charles and Kathleen Buckley.

Services will be on Thursday, October 9, 2025 at 6:00 p.m. at Murray Funeral Home in Fredericksburg with Jay Clarke officiating. Friends may call from 4:00 p.m. until time of services. Interment will take place at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the 555th Honors Detachment, 14834 Jordon Rd., Creston, Ohio 44217.
